    Traveling with underwater flashlights

My girlfriend and I were on a trip 3 weeks ago and we had no problems at all with packing the lights and batteries on our checked luggage . My bag was actually check going and coming from the trip, but I think that was because of the steel back plate I was carrying. Who Knew ?

Decision time: Bottom Time or Drysuits?

And still one more for getting the Drysuit. Warm water is great, but just the fact that I would be a lot more comfortable diving my local waters was the sell point for me. I find myself diving a lot more than I used to. We're currently saving up to get one for my girlfriend and she can't wait.

    Some motivation needed.....

Really appreciate all the input, Sure sounds very appealing. Now comes the hard part, how to tell the girlfriend about all the new expenses coming our way. Wish me luck.

    Some motivation needed.....

All, I'm looking for a little motivation. Technical diving has been at the back on my mind for some time now but I never seem to be able to take that next step. I guess I'm asking to find out what got you started. What was that one thing or things that made you decide that recreational...

    O'Neill Mutant 5/4mm for Monterey?

I'm another that would have to say a drysuit is the way to go in Monterey. I used to have a 1 piece 7/5 mm which did the job for most of the time, but there were those days that just got so cold I had to switch to a drysuit. Don't get me wrong, I will still use my wesuit here and there, but...

Please tell me the scoop about the Channel Islands

I would also recommend truthaquatics in Santa Barbara for a liveaboard trip. I've been diving with them since 1997 and they have a great crew and really good food. I mainly use their boat the Vision but have used their other boat Conception for trips to the southern islands. Both are...

    Recent news about Utila

Don’t know where you are planning on staying, but I just recently came back from spending a week in Utila at the Laguna Beach Resort. I was there from 5/10-5/17 and had a great time. There were about 26 of us that went, so we pretty much took up the whole place. Conditions were on the windy...

    Is it too Heavy???

Thanks for the input, right now I’m using 12 lbs so that would leave me with about 5 lbs of ditchable weight. I’m also looking at the FredT BP since they have gotten so many good reviews. I read somewhere in here that the plates on the link below might be FredT plates but could some one...

    Is it too Heavy???

Being another guy that will be making the transition to a BP/wings, I decided to do some research and I found I plate that I like (specially the price) from S & W Metal Products, but was wondering if it might be to heavy for a person like me. The plate with harness weights in at 7.5 lbs. Me...

how far will you drive to dive

Most of my diving takes place in Monterey, CA which is about 1.5 hour drive. However, about 2 to 3 times a year I'll drive down to Santa Barbara, CA to spend a few days boat diving. That's about 4.5 to 5 hour drive, but well worth it. Haven't started diving Lake Tahoe yet, that will...

    diving the breakwater

I use the XCEL 7-6-5 with a hooded vest and that keeps me warm enough, but I do have to agree that putting the suit on for the second dive is usually the hardest part.

Need advice on Equipt and LDS in SF Bay Area

One more thing about Monterey Bay Dive Center. According to them, you can rent just about anything that they sell in the store, so you might be able to try different backplates before purchasing it. Just give them a call in advance and they can have it ready for you.

    Dive computer/ internet

I too have ordered a few things from LP including S&S MX10, Suunto Cobra with SK7 and a few other things. Usually they arrived within 3 to 4 days. Never had a problem with any of the equipment I have ordered so I never had to send it back. LP offers their own warranty as opposed to a...

    DiversDiscount.com 150% Price Protection

I placed an order with DiversDiscount on April 30th and I’m still waiting for my order to be delivered. All I ever get from them are emails telling me about a new delivery date and blaming the manufacturer. I think there are a lot of other stores out there with much better customer service...

    Monterey?

Hi Lisa, I don't know if you were able to make it to Monterey or not, but if you didn't, you didn't miss much. I thought I was going to be on-call during the weekend, but I found out last minute that some one else took on-call and I was able to go diving. Our first dive was at Lover's...

    diversdiscount.com lies

Add me to the unhappy customer list. I recently order from divers discount with plenty of time to get my stuff delivered by next week when I go to the Channel Islands. I just now got an e-mail from them stating my items are in back order and will not arrive untill May 24th which is 5 days...
