What attachments do you use to assure your camera doesn't fall into the deep abyss?

My friends and I want to stay in either the Iberostar Paraiso or the Gala Resort Playacar in/near Playa del Carmen. Does anyone have any neg/pos to say about either? We will be leaving the beginning of August. We will be diving in Cozumel, but want to stay in Playa del Carmen.
