    Miami SB Hotel recommendation?

    Sea Poetry

Well, it was a little long, but well worth the time it took to read! Your vivid description of every sense: smell, sound, touch, taste, put the dive right in the palm of my hands. It felt like I was there diving myself! I enjoyed reading it very much, it made me anxious to get to my next dive...

    Miami SB Hotel recommendation?

Thanks. Is 20th street far from the strip? I was told the strip goes up to about 13th street. Normally no big deal, but we're only there one night, may as well stay close to where we want to be.

    Decompression insurance

Well, the biggest reason is that I didn't know it was only $70/yr. Of course for two people that's $140, but no big deal. Second, we typically only take one dive vacation a year (although this year we're taking 2,) so that makes the cost less worth it. Third, my husband works for the...

    Miami SB Hotel recommendation?

We are staying overnight in Miami in October, and would like to stay in Miami's South Beach. We will only be there one night. We would like a hotel on or walking distance from the strip. A king bed room in the $100-$150 range, but nice & clean, even if simple. We're only there at night, so we...

    Decompression insurance

I don't mind having to give a credit card to cover services, and I don't mind having to wait for reimbursement from insurance, and I don't even mind if I would have to pay some out of pocket myself. Money is not the issue to me. However, I didn't know DAN has its own staff and facilities. Are...

    Iberostar fees

Christi, if its a public pier, will the dive op "have" to pay the bill when they receive it? Or can they just ignore it?

    Decompression insurance

Yes, it does. It covers me worldwide for any emergency. Although it won't necessarily fly me home unless they deem it to be required. I've had various other health insurances in the past, and my experience with all of them has been the same (HMO & PPO). However, I've always worked for at...

    Decompression insurance

I'm not questioning that DAN is a great service. But as far as covering a decompression chamber, I checked with my HMO, and I was told the deco chamber is covered. (I checked with a supervisor to be sure.) They said any medical treatment is covered if its required emergency treatment. Now, I...

    Iberostar fees

I know we've killed this to death, but if anyone is still reading this thread, I'd just like to say that the $1 fee may have been charged to the dive operation, but I do not believe they passed it along to us, as I pulled their fees off their website and that was exactly what I was charged...

    Iberostar fees

I was at Iberostar first week in July, and paid no dock fees. There was an Iberostar employee on the dock each time asking us who we were diving with and recording it on a spreadsheet, but they did not collect any money. The only time we paid an additional fee is when we dove with Dressel, they...

    OK, I've been to Coz

I've got the perfect solution. Plaza Las Glorias is being bought out by Palace Resorts, and will become AI. They're closed for renovations now. That should satisfy your requirements.

    Concrete beds

While the beds were hard, we didn't mind them at all. It was good for our backs. We minded the thin cardboard pillows much more than the hard bed! (We stayed at Iberostar.) We went from Coz to Isla Mujeres, though, and were thrilled with the beds which were softer and very comfortable.

    Iberostar is NOT for divers!!

I did say the staff was really nice at the Iberostar dive shop, so it doesn't surprise me if new divers enjoy it. We didn't have any problems getting another dive shop to pick us up at their dock, as someone else said, but they did take their time getting their boats out of the way. Maybe...

    Iberostar is NOT for divers!!

I spoke with three travel agents, and Iberostar was the first choice of all of them. Now I'm wondering if they pay a higher commission than the other hotels?? Occidental Grand was significantly more expensive the week we went, otherwise I would've considered it. Next time I think we'll stay in...

    Iberostar is NOT for divers!!

Regarding the Iberostar in Cozumel, it is a nice hotel, and ok for non-divers, and especially for kids. But it was DEFINATELY not a good resort if you scuba dive, for the following reasons: The dive operation onsite is mostly for inexperienced divers (although the dive shop employees were...

    San Carlos Mexico

We dive with El Mar dive shop in Mesa. They own a dive shop in San Carlos as well (same name) which is convenient. They did a great job - the bus ride down had videos, games, prizes, and was a great group. Stayed at Plaza Las Glorias - very nice hotel for San Carlos! Big, clean rooms, nice...

    coz early July

When we're up for a ride into town for dinner, etc, we'll give you a call. It will be fun to mix with some other people. If anyone else wants to get together from the 4th through the 11th, call the Iberostar and ask for Paul and Caryn Strauss. Its a nice change of pace to spend time with other...

    coz early July

My husband and I are there July 4th through the 11th. What dive op are you going to dive with? Its our first time there, too, but we're staying at the Iberostar.
