What's special about diving in Hawaii?

Please note that both Ed Robinsons and Mike Severns are no longer in business. ProDiver bought Ed’s boat and Island style Diving bout Severns boat. I will recommend Island Style highly, but would discourage diving with ProDiver. Also there are no whales in June.

    Best dive shops on Maui?

If you’re in Kihei, Maalaea, or Wailea, check out Maui Dreams. Excellent shop and the Maui Diamond II is an excellent boat and crew. Island Style divers is fantastic too, and I believe both give Kama’aina rates.

Zena.. the tank hits my head... How to lower it?

Is the top strap below your ribcage when you tighten it? The last straps adjusted should be the shoulder straps. Easiest way to make sure it’s correct is the go horizontal upon descent, loosen the shoulder straps significantly, grab the bottom of the corset and pull the Zena down until the top...

    Trip Report Maui dive report

MD gets back later from Lanai because the dives are at least an hour each, and they do a proper 60 min surface interval in between.

    Trip Report Maui dive report

The Maui Diamond (aka Maui Dreams) also goes to Lanai, though not on a regular schedule. You would have had a much different experience with them vs Lahaina Divers. Joe and Dave are former Ed Robinson’s crew and they captain and DM the same as before. Don, the owner of The Maui Diamond...

Large Boats - Oahu and Maui

Maui Diamond Sea Sports (affiliated with Maui Dreams) now has a 46’ Newton, very similar to Lahaina Divers’ boats. Very comfortable dive platform and goes out of Maalaea so it’s a shorter ride to Molokini and S. Maui sites.

Maui in Late Sept - need an Op and any other suggestions

Definitely would recommend Severns with what you’ve said about your desires.

    Maui Dive Ops

Please note that Ed Robinsons went out of business for boat diving a couple of years ago. The boat was sold to Pro Diver and after giving them a try a few times, I can’t recommend them. All boats are going out with reduced capacity right now, so even the bigger operators like LD are running...

Recommendations for Certification Dive for my daughters in Maui

If you’re staying in Kihei or Wailea, check out Maui Dreams. Outstanding training.

That’s really sad, thanks for sharing.

    Molokini poaching

I just got back from nearly a month on Maui and made it out to Molokini about 4x once out of quarantine. On each visit I observed people fishing with either line or spears either at Reefs End or just around the corner at Reefs End or Ene Nue. On the last day of diving at Molokini I had the...

    2 Questions about Maui

April’s a really nice time to dive Maui. We are there every April and definitely enjoy hearing the whale song and seeing the whales (sometimes under water!). We’ve always had really good luck seeing Mantas in Maui and really enjoy the natural encounters we have with them. Hopefully things...

Is there good drift diving on the Hawaiian islands?

Be aware that right now there’s a mandatory 14 day quarantine in Hawaii where you literally cannot leave your accommodations during that time.

    July Trip to Maui

Please note that Ed Robinson retired last summer and sold his boat and permits to ProDiver Maui. At first the ERDA crew continued working on the old Sea Spirit (now ProDiver III), but they all quit earlier this year.

    July Trip to Maui

I have a trip planned for July as well and hope to make it out there. I do quite a bit of shore diving in South Maui, so if we’re able to go and you’re interested in meeting up for a shore dive or two, we can see if our calendars will sync.

    zeagle stiletto

I dived a Zeagle for over 10 years and never once had to dump or rethread my weight pockets. Frankly, if I had to use it, the last of my worries would be rethreading it! Also, I never lost weights whereas I’ve seen many weight pockets and pouches at the bottom of the ocean.

    Zeagle Zena fit and sizing

Size down the front panel and shoulders and see how that goes. Keep in mind that the “waist” straps are the middle ones not the bottom ones. Too many people wear the Zenas incorrectly. The middle strap should be tight below your rib cage (or at least the very bottom of your rib cage). I know...

    Maui Dec/Jan 2020?

Like all shore diving, it can be a crap shoot, but as Scuba Steve stated, you can usually find a good option if you’re willing to drive. I’d suggest that some boat diving should be something you seriously consider as you’ll be able to access some excellent sites you can’t get to from shore...

Maui dive op & site suggestions for middle of March

There are some good shore dive sites in S. Maui that you can dive and snorkel together for very inexpensive. Both Ulua and Makena Landing are shallow enough that your husband could litter all snorkel above you and see you the entire time. Is that $425 CAN? when are you going?
