    Back for a visit

I don't know if any of the "old timers" are still here but, please say "Hi". I stopped in because I received an email that I had a PM from a member here but the system can't find the PM. A search on the members name doesn't come up with anything. It seems a little strange but as long as I was...

    Hi!

I haven't been around in a while so I just wanted to stop in and say hello to whoever might still be around that I know. Well, hello to everybody else too. LOL

    Other rescues...

or bloopers and bleepers? Sort of in response to a question in the "Have You Ever Considered the Risk" thread. I thought I'd start another thread rather than take that one too far off topic. Here, for your reading pleasure (or not) are the accounts of a couple of surface assists. Jump in...

Why does trying to enter some scubaboard forums or threads cause my conputer to reboot?

LA county diving and training methods

The long hose? I like it but there is little question that you can do without it in OW. I'm a big fan of horizontal ascents and descents for several reasons but the fact is that I can control an ascent or descent whether I'm horizontal, vertical or upside down. LOL The skills done kneeling...

    Accepting certifications from other agencies

Are there any issues associated with accepting cavern certifications from recreation training agencies, like the PADI cavern course, toward intro to cave. I know there are differences in skill requirements but I've heard slightly different takes on it from different instructors.

    September LessonsforLife

There have been quit a few threads on the board lately discussing entry level training and this kind of fits in. My new copy of Scuba Diving Magazine tells the story of Sandra who is a new diver, goes on a 80+ ft dive in a popular Caribbean location, feels air starved and bolts from her max...

Your shallowest dives-or-what kind of dives do you like the best?

Over the years we've had lots of threads asking about max depth. I guess it's natural for divers to think about depth because after all diving is going "down" under water. Still, new divers are sometimes in a hurry to do that AOW cert to get below 60 ft or to be allowed on certain charter dives...

Rocket Ascents... Can divers breach like a fish (split from Accident in Mich)

<Mod note ~ This was split from the Accident in Michigan thread. Snowbear> HOGWASH! You can't ascend fast enough for your fins to clear the water. Try it. Get us some pictures if you can. Besides, with the sorry state of so many of the public safety dive teams I'd hardly use this example...

    Hey Texas folks

So I find myself in a hotel accross the border from our plant in Reynosa Mexico on business and it looks like I have to stay the weekend. I'll probably have to work Sat but I'll have to kill Sunday on my own. I was thinking aboiut some diving and checked out the ops on South Padre. American...

Suggestion I have to tell you

and it's meant to be constructive but the pop up adds that flash in my face when I post or something are about as irritating as a thing gets. I suppose i'm sensitive to things like that but it's about like geting poked in the ribs over and over and I'll make it a point not to buy anything from...

    Three man buddy teams

I saw that Uncle promised a thread dealing with three man teams. I went looking for it but didn't find it so I thought I'd start one. On another thread a few people seemed to think three man teams were a no-no and thought every one (especially instructors) should know this and were somehow...

    Peacock Springs

The permenant line in P3 starts fairly far in (campared to what you normally see these days) and it's kind of hard to find if you don't know where it is...it's a ways further in than the stop sign. I have no idea of course but if they didn't run a line in or if for, whatever reason, he was...

    I think I will...

...use the whine and cheeze forum to blow off a little steam. I found out yesterday that the plant is closing and everything is moving to Mexico. Well...not everything...the people just get booted...well...not all the people get booted...the incompetent execs that always do these things get...

    Reports of my death...

...have been greatly exaggerated. Yesterday my wife recieved a phone call from a local (as local as you get around here anyway) dive shop owner that we've known for a long time. I was ouside waiting for my wife. We were on our way out to pick up a couple of horses that we just baught...

    Over coffe this morening...

I was looking through the new issue of "Dive Training". The refuse to believe that I closed my shop I guess because they still send me boxes of the things. Any way...they had a piece on reg recovery. They pictured a kneeling diver performing an arm sweep and an over the shoulder reach. They...

    Labor Day Diving...or not...

Maybe this should have gone in the whine and cheese forum but the subject is, unfortunately, a big part of diving. The Great Lakes did it to me again. After spending about $300 on gas, spending several evenings mixing gas, checking gear, assembling a new set of doubles and driving 6...

rec Decompression out of the DIR forum

First off we're talking recreational dives which are in theory within the no-stop limits. Notice I didn't say NDL or no decompression limits. That's because if you get compressed you will decompress. ok? Lets first address the idea of deeper stops whether the NAUI (rule of halves) or stops at...

    Compressor valve trouble?

I changed the oil today and started it up. After about a half hour running I shut it down and noticed smoke comming from the first stage intake. Normal? I never noticed it before if it is. Checking things further I saw that there had been some leakage around the cap nut of the second stage...
