    Where to stay in Bonaire

Oh, and Sand Dollar just got lots of brand new chairs for the common areas to replace the old broken ones. Even better! We will stay again. Just a side note - we stayed at Buddy the last/extra night courtesy of United delay. The room was renovated and nice, (much better than last time hubby...

Bonaire In November - Wet or Just Damp?

Agree! Surge is the worst for shore diving... and waves, crashing onto ironshore, making entries/exits treacherous. We only found that a couple of days in the south, and once the exit at Oil Slick. That's why I won't go to Maui in winter any more. Conditions are way better in spring.

    Where to stay in Bonaire

Wagons? What are you talking about? They drive the tanks to the tank room. We were at Sand Dollar in Nov. and dove with DF. They have a 24 hr tank room at the water where you can grab tanks and gear up at benches, then walk down about 4 steps, then across the small beach and into the calm water...

Bonaire In November - Wet or Just Damp?

We were there Nov. 9-16 (er, 17... add the extra day for flight delay), 2013. We experienced short rain showers many days. It was overcast or cloudy quite often too, but always very warm. Wouldn't have liked it for a beach vacation, but it was fine for diving. The bugs were quite bad, which...

    United red eye canceled

Did you read my trip report part 2 ? ...with the details of our United fiasco with the dead plane 24 hour delay and connection nightmares. We are still awaiting compensation. It will be a long battle I'm sure. My best piece of advice.... change airlines if you can. We will avoid flying United...

    Bonaire trip report - Nov. 9 -16 - part 2

The trip home from hell. We were leaving on the 8:30 am United flight to Houston (then to Seattle and YVR). We were at at the airport plenty early enough but there was a line. Turns out it was the flight to Newark boarding. Then it was our turn. All went ok until we boarded the plane. There was...

    Bonaire trip report - Nov. 9 -16 - part 1

My husband had been to Bonaire before, but it was my first trip there. I’ve been diving many places in the Caribbean as well as Maui and the Great Barrier Reef. Bonaire was on my to do list to see if it really is all that it’s cracked up to be. In my opinion.... absolutely it is! I...

getting there early - where to go?

Ray & Pam - No, we're not on the same flight. We'll be coming in from Newark. But maybe we'll cross paths somewhere :) When we leave the following Sat. we head to Houston though. Have a great trip! lmorin - Thanks for the suggestion. It turns out the guests before us leave on an early flight...

getting there early - where to go?

Thanks for all the tips! I will look into the restaurant suggestions. We booked through VRBO and it is booked solid so no early check in (but no harm to check in case they leave early). Not too keen on snorkelling or diving then, as we will have our valuables until we have safe access.That's...

getting there early - where to go?

Only 9 days until we leave, but it's a long series of flights, including a red eye, before we get in at 5:36 on a Sat. morning. First time to Bonaire for me, second for him. He stayed at Buddy before, and it was years ago, so doesn't really recall much in the way of eateries etc. Just remembers...

    Bonaire...diver friendly accommodations?

My hubby stayed at Buddy several years ago. Although they had a kitchen in their unit they didn't use it. It was a dive shop group trip so they dined out. It was mostly groups there. We're going in Nov. and staying next door at Sand Dollar condos. We found it cheaper getting a 1 bedroom condo...

Bonaire - Which is your preferred area to stay

You could look at Sand Dollar. Haven't been yet, but staying there in Nov. through VRBO - A1 ground level with screened porch. It's certainly within budget for 1 bedroom, ocean front with a view. Bari reef is right out front and Dive Friends right there. Parking is close to units and it's close...

WARNING: Don’t book villas through Marielle Tichelaar of Bonaireoceanfrontvillas.com.

Read through this and that on Bonaire talk. It's pretty obvious who's side that mod is on. Wow. Just want to say I feel for the OP going though all this, and thanks for the warning. Certainly noted by me.

what vehicle to rent since CC does not cover trucks

Actually, their CDW insurance does NOT cover everything. Check out their insurance page with the grid. However, for $19 p/day their optional FULL insurance covers it all and brings the deductible to zero. Although this and all the taxes just about doubles the base rate, I think this is what we...

Did the “A” for a beach vaca, now doing the “B” for some serious diving :)

Thanks DiveMaven, I’m sure we are going to love it! Location is much of the reason for this choice. We really enjoyed Maui shore diving, but after staying in Napilli and driving south of Kihei everyday in traffic, I’ve learned to put higher priority on location. Looking forward to a...

Did the “A” for a beach vaca, now doing the “B” for some serious diving :)

We decided to go with Sand Dollar and booked a 1 bedroom through VRBO... Ground floor, ocean front, screened porch.... All sounds good to me... Can hardly wait :) Will likely go with DF, as service is important to us. It's a competitive world with no place for cranky dive shop owners caught up...

what vehicle to rent since CC does not cover trucks

wwguy - thanks, but that only applies for Americans. oldbear - thanks for sharing. Glad your story worked out well. Good general tips. I tend to err on the side of caution. I have additional coverage at home which covers rental cars in Canada and the USA, have coverage through various credit...

what vehicle to rent since CC does not cover trucks

Thanks for all th replies. I checked with AMEX through the bank and they didn't know anything about coverage for trucks, and suggested I contact the partners (of the insurance policy) I did, and they didn't know either and suggested I contact the bank. <sigh> I did check the certificate of...

what vehicle to rent since CC does not cover trucks

Upon double checking that the CDW is covered by our credit cards, I discovered than none of them (yes, have several for various reward programs) cover pick-up trucks or 4WDs. This may not be the case for American policies, but fellow Canadians, I hope you realize this?!So, do we just suck it up...
