    buoyancy test..... HUH ?

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.:mooner: I understand that being over weighted increases the change in buoyancy resulting from the pressure change caused by changing depth; I just don’t see it as a significant factor compared to the lift created by swimming through the water at an...

    buoyancy test..... HUH ?

For whatever it’s worth, I disagree that being over weighted makes a significant impact on bouyancy control. However it will increase your air consumption. There are several tendencies of new divers that dramatically affect their bouyancy control or lack there of. The biggest one being...

    Tips on Lowering Air Consumption

The best way to improve your air consumption rate is to dive a lot. There are some things that you can consciously do to improve your air consumption rate but the biggest improvement will happen without conscious effort as you and your body learn how to move underwater efficiently though...

    Suunto Cobra Malfunction?

Perhaps you have just had bad luck. I have three cobras and never had a problem with them on any of hundreds of dives. Out of curiosity have you discussed the issue with the dive shop where you bought it? At the dive shops I’ve worked with, they’ve stood behind the products...

    retractors

What Walter said. A retractor is just something else to get tangled up and/or broken. I use a bolt snap connected with a rubber o-ring and a cable tie. With some practice you'll be able to "snap" it on and off without thinking.

    Quck Disconnect? i.e. Suuno

I had a quick disconnect on my first Cobra till the time I got to the quarry and realized my Cobra was at home still connected to the PC. I was able to dive with the SPG from my pony, the backup bottom timer and depth gauge and the tables. But I sold the QD and haven’t used one since...

Aruba quandry. What would you do?

I've talked to a lot of divers that like Red Sail. I've done enjoyable dives with Red Sail. There are good points to the big operation, too. You can sign up for a particular dive site in advance, there are nice heads on the boats. I prefer the smaller operators. But I would suggest that you...

Bring back the tanks from Canada?

Dove on the St. Lawrence last weekend and crossed the border at 1000 Islands. No problems or even questions about the tanks at the border. Had fun diving the Keystorm and drinking in the Keystorm in Brockville. Still a bit cold though at 54 degrees.

Aruba quandry. What would you do?

We have a timeshare in Aruba and go every year. There are big operators there, Pelican and Redsail and small operators like Native Divers and Dive Aruba. I like the small operators. I would rather dive the lagoon looking for Natalie with Native Divers than diving the Antilla with Pelican...

    Aruba Diving Questions

What are you looking for? Both Pelican and Red Sail have well run big operations (a.k.a. cattle boats). I like Romeo with Native Divers http://www.nativedivers.com/ and have only heard good things about Clive and Dive Aruba. Both are small operations run by locals. I would suggest you try...

    Dive Computers---Not if, But When!

A couple of thoughts for what they’re worth. My wife and I have three Cobras between us, none of which have failed after more than a hundred dives and lots of pool time. What are the consequences of a failure? For the dive – end the dive safely. For the trip – according to the PADI...

    Disturbing trend

I more humbly think that you're out of line here. ScubaBoard is a community and we all play a part, however small, in deciding what it will become. While I think the MODs in general and Pete in particular do an excellent job they're not perfect. IMO it will be a sad day when they stop...

    Disturbing trend

Having personally had several debates with Pete (A.K.A. NetDoc), I can vouch that it is not necessarily grounds for banning or even censure. Mike

    Disturbing trend

What in the TOS did the originator of the thread saying that “management” should work things out Genesis violate? Or if I want to get rid of a thread can I simple violate the TOS to get the thread pulled in it’s entirety?

    Disturbing trend

That perhaps would explain why individual posts are pulled, but not why entire threads disappear. The latest post I saw pulled started out saying “management” should work things out with Genesis, how was that a personal attack?

    Disturbing trend

I don’t think that I’ll miss Genesis at all; all he liked to do is argue, rant and rave. But as a community I think Scubaboard needs to discuss the issue. The recent trend of disappearing threads related to the issue is disturbing. If theses threads are being pulled without explanation one...

    need good dive shop Aruba

I’m starting to get excited about the yearly trip to Aruba; we leave April 3rd for two weeks. I think it’s an excellent idea, it’s what I did. IMO the classroom portion of the training at resorts leaves a lot to be desired, and who wants to study on vacation? On the other hand there’s no...

    Seeking equipment for blind diver

Sorry for my part in sidetracking this thread. My first thought was the concept of a blind diver was ridiculous. If I couldn’t “see” there is no way I’d be diving. But in thinking about it, I suspect that that’s only because I’m looking at it through my perspective; there are a lot of...
