    A tank for non-breating air?

A shop won't fill it without a VIS for there safety, not yours. Pass hydro, should pass VIS. Need what part of there VIS didn't pass, not the reason they will sell you a hydro without a VIS. At this point, take your fresh hydro and leave. Find another shop to do the VIS and hopefully get a...

Articulated Knee Brace Ok In Salt Water

I've killed my ACL twice. both times took surgery to fix First time I got a CTI brace. Doc only got it for when I do high risk stuff, doesn't want me wearing it daily. Wants the knee to be strong on its own. I remember the option list included floats in case you wanted to use if for water...

Corroding wrecks of World War II ships

And Bikini is considered one of the most unspoiled areas. Not for the lack of oil bleeding into the water or the 23 atomic bombs that have blown the place apart. Just keep humans away from it.

Corroding wrecks of World War II ships

I was around for both of those. The scale and location are completely different. A co-worker's husband worked for the state of Mississippi (fish and game, or some other agency that dealt with ocean stuff) and they were making fun of all the news. The oil on the beach that made national news...

Corroding wrecks of World War II ships

Every time I have been in Truk there has been at least one ship bleeding some oil. And those were on fumes when they sunk. To counter that, oil in the ocean is actually natural. WHAT? It isn't completely a man made thing. In the gulf of Mexico oil naturally washed up on shore well before we...

Medical Fatality in Plura cave system in Norway

Good read. Gives a lot of insight. To an extent, "natural causes" in a place where it turned fatal instead of just a bad day. If had been driving on a mountain road, it would have been an auto accident as they drove off the side of a mountain. In this case, a dive accident because it...

Suggestion Easy way to filter out “For Sale” posts from “New Posts”

You mean today when someone decided to place 50 separate ads for each piece of gear they are trying to sell? Yea, that is pretty annoying.

Medical Fatality in Plura cave system in Norway

Most of the Choptima divers I know dive them with doubles. Dil-out setup. You have the Dil in doubles and it is also your bailout gas. The Oxygen is the little bottle at the bottom of the rebreather. My understanding is this was a rebreather trip. The people I know who were on the trip were...

    Jared Hires

Last night I got word from one of the party that it is the group that I knew about. That narrowed it down to 8 people. I know about half that group. I politely just waited for the news to be officially released.

Who is riding trimix dil all the way to the surface and who is flushing to a nitrox dil?

I took a mountain bike up to a camp at 7000's elevation and tried to ride it around. Results were about the same as your 11,000 top speed run. I am sure you were in better shape than I was as well. But it isn't an issue in the 1000-2000 elevation. That low PPO2 can really screw with you. I...

Who is riding trimix dil all the way to the surface and who is flushing to a nitrox dil?

They don't have the added work of breathing of breathing through a couple hoses, counterlungs, and a scrubber either. Run that in a rebreather any you are a couple breaths away from going nighty nighty. You also state not routinely passing out, which implies there is an occasional pass out...

Who is riding trimix dil all the way to the surface and who is flushing to a nitrox dil?

Over thinking it, making things too complex for a fairly mild dive. I know of the theory, never done it. For 2-3 hour dives up to 60M-200ft there is more chance of a mistake than there is from the benefit of switching DIL. Might save a few minutes of deco, which I can do with a slight bump in...

Question “Comp, “own” and “owl”. This was on my padi dive card for dives in Hawaii I did in Feb. Idk what those terms mean or how to record this in my SSI log

Looking at that card... COMP is Computer. As in you logged it on the computer The OWx is "OWN" as in Owner has the information. Same as Computer above. Just whoever was filling out the cards has there own way of doing it. Considering the stack of these cards they are filling out on top of...

    Question Glove and pee systems

From doing tons of research and actually following up with details instead of just "this is better" or "this sucks". Brass zipper can be more durable, but it has to lay flatter. If you are a commercial diver, always have surface support you trust, backmounted brass is a very good way to go. The...

Started doing that in Chrome a couple weeks back. Funny that 2 lines down from this thread it shows up. Someone didn't get the code proofed out.

    Hydrotesting in Switzerland, WTF.

Sounds like they are encouraging you to take a dive vacation to a different country. As for the pricing, is that set by the government or by a private shop setting there own price? Even in the states there are a few places that set a "I don't want to work on your stuff" price.

    Owning your own Oxygen Analyzer

Another thread from the dead. 13 years. Not the oldest to be woken up, but one of the older ones. As for the "we trust the shop" comment. I am not part of that we.

Apart from a JJ CCR, what else do I need to order?

Have a talk with your instructor. They should have a list of what you need for the class. From spares to bailouts and consumables. Long term, start shopping for extra 3L cylinders and a booster.
