    g-shock watches...

I've got a fairly old G-Shock model that does double duty as my dive watch (mainly for timing safety stops). I've long since lost the instruction booklet, so don't know if it had the "don't use buttons underwater" warning or not, but I can say that it's worked fine (buttons included) for me so...

Using your Oly C 5050z for Quicktime Movies

This site has a lot of useful information regarding digital video (capturing, editing, authoring, conversion, etc.) - for both PCs and Macs (so everyone should be happy).

    Starter camera?

I've got a Sea & Sea MX-5 which is a 35mm with a built-in flash. Buttermanr speaks the truth about the external strobe. If you get right up on something, the picture turns out OK (well, ok for an underwater newbie photographer like myself anyway, would probably get laughed off this board), but...

    Oceanic Computers

Not to skew the results too much, but my wife and I each have a Versa Pro. While I love the computer itself (easy controls, fairly intuitive, etc.), I've had a ton of problems trying to download it to my PC. There are a coupld of threads on scubaboard talking about this - seems like it works...

Best place to buy Oly 5050 and PT-015

I got a really good deal from amazon.com a couple of weeks ago - $568.00 for a C-5050Z (no tax, free shipping). When I saw this thread, I went to check the current price, and it's now up to $599 (not sure if ti was on sale before, or if they mispriced it). Amazon lists J&R Music and Computer...

First Boat Dive Jitters w/ master diver pal

Regarding the comment about wanting you to go one a "real dive at 90 feet," personally, I don't get a big rush out of diving deep. My wife and I recently went on a trip to North Carolina for some wreck diving. Every day consisted of two wreck dives in the > 100 ft. range. The wrecks were neat...

    travel security with strobe

My wife and I recently flew to North Carolina - I had my cameras and strobe in a Pelican case. On the way out (from Denver), they checked my reg bag, but not the cameras (this was before the "warning"). On the way back, both bags caused quite a bit of consternation to the guy at the X-ray...

Versa Pro PC Interface and Software

I got mine at my LDS. I checked the other day, and it's still not on Oceanic's web page. Perhaps give them a call and see who carries their stuff in your area. On a related note, there's a discussion going on around issues with the software that you might want to check out...

    Regulator Vibration on Exhale

I've got an S600 also, and it definitely makes a fairly loud vibration noise when dry and hooked to a tank (don't recall if it was on inhale or exhale tho). I've never noticed the vibration once in the water. Haven't tried messing with the purge button, so not sure if this is the same issue...

    Do you have a mustache?

I'll have to agree on both counts - trim and don't sweat the leaks. I'm a fairly new diver, and right at first, I was worried about any water that got into my mask. On my last few dives, I remember thinking that somehow the leaks had stopped, but I think it was really just that clearing my...

    MX-5 vs. MX-5II

Thanks for all the suggestions. As I don't really have the money right now to do any camera system upgrades, my big concern was missing out on thie upgrade possibility if it was only for a limited time. My initial impression/assumption was that digital would be a lost more expensive than the...

    Oceanic Versa Pro

Glad to hear you got your problems solved! The guy I worked with said he finally got two cables (new one from the dive shop and my old cable) to work with his computer. What he did (thankfully with the store's cable and not mine!) was to repeatedly plug and unplug the cable before attempting...

    MX-5 vs. MX-5II

Has anyone tried both the MX-5 and MX-5 II (with strobe)? I've currently got one of the older MX-5's, and noticed that Sea & Sea has an upgrade program where you can send in your old camera (plus some cash) and get the newer model that will handle the closeup lens and external strobe. The...

    Oceanic Versa Pro

Oceanic tech support is certainly nothing to write home about. I've sent them about four unanswered emails, and left two voicemail messages - no response. Still have not been able to successfully download all the dives in either of my VersaPros to a PC - they always come out corrupted...

    Oceanic Versa Pro

SlurrySeal- When you say you had no problems on 98, do you just mean with the install? How'd the software itself work? Were you able to download your dive data, and did it look OK?

    Oceanic Versa Pro

Well, no good luck with 2000. I tried it on 2000 Server, and it gets an error that it cannot access the database and exits. A friend of mine tried it out on 2000 Workstation and was able to get it up and running. Unfortunately, he said he had a really tough time getting it to recognize his...

How do you like the computer you own?

Well, we've been asking about it every time we visit the shop - they didn't have it three weeks ago (last time we were there). Well, it's not *supposed* to be beta, anyway. Can't really say on whether the issues will be fixed or not. I received a reply back saying that they'd received my...

    Oceanic Versa Pro

I bought it from my LDS in Colorado (Flatirons Scuba, http://www.flatironsscuba.com) - looked like it was the only one they had on the rack. I've been asking about it ever since I bought my computer (around 6 months ago) - they didn't have it until this weekend. I called Oceanic about the...

How do you like the computer you own?

My wife and I have Oceanic Versa Pros (the navcon model). So far, we're been pretty pleased with them. I like the simplicity of the user interface (two button), and the size and appearance of the computer face itself. The only issue we have with the computer is that the clear plastic...

    Oceanic Versa Pro

Well, evidently it's out, as I just purchased it from my LDS today. $169.95 and a *HUGE* headache so far. I installed the software on my Windows NT 4.0 machine, and it replaced a bunch or Microsoft MFC DLLs. To make a long story short, I'm in the process of completely reinstalling NT right...
