    Bonaire or Placencia?

There are many places I'd go on the other side of the planet if I had the time, but I have to squeeze a trip into a one week timeframe. Thus, the geographic boundary.

    Bonaire or Placencia?

Okay, opening up this discussion again. We ended up going to Bonaire, had a great time, but were a little disappointed in the reefs. Not as pretty as they were last time we were there in 1992. :) Our divemaster (a local) said the big storm of 2002 did a lot of damage to the reef system and it...

    I had to stop watching

I feel like I just witnessed Spring Break underwater. :-) Fortunately, I've never witnessed anything like that firsthand in my 40 years diving in the Caribbean. Not that I don't run into a poor diver here and there, but nothing on that scale.

Fitbit Charge 3 and scuba diving

I accidentally wore my Fitbit Alta HR on two dives while in Bonaire in Sept. Total of 2 hours at max depth of 60'. Still works like a charm.

    Bonaire or Placencia?

With flight prices changing daily, my first choice, Cozumel, is back in the hunt. That said, I would like to return to Bonaire sometime, although after living in Phoenix 18 years, going to an island with a cactus landscape just isn't all that appealing.

    Bonaire or Placencia?

I actually can get to Bonaire pretty easy...and cheaper than going to Cozumel. Go figure. For whatever reason, it's over $900 for me to fly to Coz, but $722 to Bon (PHX - IAH - Bon). Since my last trip was to Coz and I haven't been to Bon in 20 years, it seems likea good enough reason to go back.

    Bonaire or Placencia?

. We enjoy both boat and shore diving, but I don't anticipate driving all over Bonaire to shore dive. When not diving, probably spend most of the time just relaxing and doing the occasional excursion. The last time I was in Bonaire, there wasn't much going on topside. Not sure if things have...

    Bonaire or Placencia?

Going diving in September and narrowed choices down to Bonaire or Placencia. Never been to Belize, but been to Bonaire twice decades ago. All thoughts and opinions welcomed.

    2016 Cozumel Tipping Etiquette?

Most operations run multiple boats and crew have days off, so I never assume I'm going to have the same crew all week. So, I tip daily. I don't worry who I give it to as its my understanding the crew pool and split tips. I just got back from Cozumel. I brought five 20s for daily tips and kept...

    Suggestions for Caribbean Dive Vacation?

Okay, decided on Cozumel. Now investigating Dive Operators. There are a million in Cozumel, many with very good ratings. Visited about a dozen Dive Operator web pages and not one provided information on the size boats they use or where the pick up/leave port. Seems ridiculous that I need to...

    Suggestions for Caribbean Dive Vacation?

He everyone, thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate you taking time to provide information and ask clarifying questions. As for other activities we like to do....sightseeing local sites of interest, ruins, any outdoor/adventure activity, sailing, certainly some shopping and nightlife...

    Suggestions for Caribbean Dive Vacation?

Sorry in advance for the long post. :D My wife and I are experienced divers, but we don't dive that often. We're organizing a dive trip somewhere in the Carib with some friends that are new divers. All of us want to go somewhere where there is more to do than just diving. After much discussion...

    Cayman questions

I'll echo another vote for Stingray City. It's definitely a unique experience and a lot of fun. I've snorkeled it and dived it (twice). I much prefer diving it, but snorkeling was fun, too. As mentioned, try to go with a small outfit and if possible, go at at time when it's not too crowded...

Advice on Grand Cayman 7 Mile Beach

As they say, "ignorance is bliss." I spent a week in GC a couple of weeks ago in the CocoPlum condos which are directly behind the St Matthews University residences. I walked all over the place, including to/from the Kirk grocery store and never had any issues. Granted, I don't go walking...

how does GC work? condo, hotel, resort?

Definitely stay in a condo, buy groceries and eat in if you want to do GC on the cheap. The best source I've found for locating condo rentals is VRBO.com. If you need to rent a car, I recommend Andy's Car Rental. Definitely cheaper than the big name companies.

Advice on Grand Cayman 7 Mile Beach

I'm not prone to motion sickness, except when boat diving, so I always take some over-the-counter medicine like Dramimine when I head to the islands. My point is, you don't have to limit yourself to shore diving just because of a little sea sickness. The good shore diving up in the West Bay...

    Grand Cayman trip report

We just got back yesterday from a week of diving in Grand Cayman. Being that it was not our first time there, we rented a condo within walking distance to a grocery store and ate in a lot. That did save a lot of pennies given the exchange rate and high cost of dining. ;-)

Cobalt Coast/Lighthouse Point in mid September

I just got back from a week of diving with my family in Grand Cayman. We did some shore diving at both Dive Tech locations. The staffs at both locations were very friendly and helpful, and neither place was very crowded. I personally liked the dive at the Lighthouse Point location better than...

Cool lionfish news ... potential contest and lunch

I just returned from a week of diving on Grand Cayman and the dive masters carry spearguns and kill any lionfish found during the dives. On our first dive, we spotted 5 or 6 lionfish of which the dive master was able to kill 4. We didn't see any more the rest of the week.
