    Housing & strobe settings

Digging through my paperwork/manuals for my Ikelite strobes (2x DS161s) and housing (Olympus E-3) I came across the bit for setting Manual/TTL on the housing. It says to use the substrobe set to TTL when using the manual setting on the housing. Is this correct, or a typo? If correct when would...

    Schematic dgm. DS-125

No thanks, being an electronics engineer I'll repair it myself. Just takes a little longer to trace out the diagram by hand. Once I have the diagram I'll make it available to all. Cheers, Steve

    Schematic dgm. DS-125

I recently flooded one of my DS-125 strobes, the damage is not too severe and looks like the flash is repairable. Does anyone know where I can get the schematic diagram from? Thanks, Steve

    Strobe pin-out connections

Does anyone have the pin-out connections for the DS series of sub strobes and the connector on the back of DSLR housings? I need to know the function of each of the 5 pins. Thanks, Steve

    cleaning 8 inch dome?

The problem is likely due to static build up and using lint cloths would probably exacerbate the problem. I have the 8" port but don't suffer from the problem. Try cleaning using lens cleaning fluid and absorbent paper kitchen towels. Steve

    E-3 housing + 8" dome port

Great to see that Ikelite are now fitting 4 locks to their port system instead of the previous 2. A simple and cheap mod that will give much more confidence to users and security to the system. Steve

    Imperial info wanted

The Cylinder Bouyancy Calculator ver 3.0 has now been released and can be downloaded from: Cylinder Bouyancy Calculator ver 3.0 This tool and the Recreational Nitrox Calculator are completely free to use. I have updated the Cylinder Bouyancy Calculator to include imperial units and I would be...

    Port for Zuiko 7-14mm lens

Thanks Brett. That's settles things, I'll stick with the 8" port. I currently get soft edges with my C-8080WZ set-up and one reason for going to the E-3 was just this problem. Cheers :) Steve

Do you guys in the US ever use the letters "lbs" for pounds? Steve

    Imperial info wanted

Thanks for help guys. Rhone Man, Thanks for your comments and the useful link. I am aware of the cylinders you use and the way their contents are quoted. It is not the precise conversion figures I need, they are easily calculated, it is what you actually use in everyday diving. My...

    Imperial info wanted

Can anyone in the US please help me out with some info on diving using imperial units? I have written some simple dive utility programs which use the metric system i.e. bar, kilogrammes and metres and am updating these programs to include imperial units pounds, psig, feet etc. I need to...

Problem with Strobes Ikelite Olympus E3

The hotshoe connector does come very close to the top of the housing and is very, very easily dislodged causing all sorts of problems which include the misoperation of the flash control LEDs on the rear. I carefully filed down to top of the connector to give another 2mm of clearance and then...

    Cleaning and Storing Sync cords

I agree with Swordfish. Remove, clean, grease and replace after a dive or trip. Leave them with the black covers screwed on - the covers are designed to be left screwed on without deforming the O rings. Steve

    Port for Zuiko 7-14mm lens

I have an Olympus E-3 and housing and also the 8" dome port #5510.45 and port body #5510.25 for the 7-14mm lens. However, I find that the complete assembly (with 2x DS125s) is extremely heavy out of the water and uncomfortably negative in the water. Looking at the Ikelite website I see there is...

    Olympus e-3 flash settings

Jean, Thanks for your offer of help. I proved tonight in the pool that the problem is the hot shoe connection - it just needs a rubber band to hold it firmly in place. Just teathing troubles with a new system but the results tonight, once the problems were ironed out, were superb. Cheers, Steve

    Olympus e-3 flash settings

Although my strobes are working there is still a problem with the flash conversion circuitry. After powering up the system a power level compensation can be set using the LEDs and two push buttons. However, after the first flash the circuitry locks-up and any further presses of the buttons have...

    Olympus e-3 flash settings

The strobes' serial numbers are greater than 5000, so no problems there. I have got the strobes firing now but it was very much a hit-and-miss affair. One problem I found is that the hot shoe connector can be very easily dislodged when sliding the camera in. I filed the top of the connector down...

    Olympus e-3 flash settings

I have an Olympus E-3 in Ikelite housing connected to 2 x DS125 strobes and am having problems getting the strobes to fire correctly. Half the time the strobes fire correctly and the exposures are fine, the rest of the time the strobes fire at very low power giving grossly underexposed shots -...
