    Using Windows 8.1 64bit

The popup mentioned "compatibility issues" ... not really properly informative of the issue or the destructive risk. It should say "your device will be BRICKED". Better yet, it should test for USB 3.0 and abort. Sloppy programming, years behind the typical system configuration, rather...

    Using Windows 8.1 64bit

The current software apparently installed just fine on my Windows 8.1 Thinkpad. However, an attempt to update the firmware bricked the radio (seemed to start well, then poof). Awaiting technical support answer to my inquiry. -- W

    Bricked

Similar experience yesterday ... send the inquiry below to Nautilus tech support, awaiting answer. If this is a USB 3.0 incompatibility, that would be bad -- USB 3.0 has been out in general release for 5 years, significant adoption for 2-3, I have no computers (macs or windows) with USB 2.0...

Need help locating provider on Maui

Hi, Ed Robinson's has a 3-tank Molokini dive trip ... 2 dives on the Molokini crater, 1 dive elsewhere. We did this when we were visiting Maui in August, it was very fun, and a good operation. After that, it usually gets a bit rough on the west side, as the afternoon winds come up. Cheers, W

First trip to Maui. Dive help desperately needed.

[i]Posted via Mobile Device[/I We did Ed Robinson "3 Tank Molokini" dive just last month, they were great. Just the one foray, did most of our diving that trip on Kona Aggressor. Very responsive by email and phone, good dives (got back wall twice, with good weather), nitrox was no problem...

    Milwaukee Car Ferry

Yes, there's a line. The wheelhouse wasn't visible at the other end when we did the excursion, but emerged from shadow to view pretty quickly as we followed the line. Cheers, W

    Milwaukee Car Ferry

Hi, I'll have to see if I noted in my log, but as an imperfect measure -- it wasn't visible down the line the leads to it when we dived it, but not too far past vis, so perhaps 50-80 feet or so is my estimate. On a single tank of air and in recreational NDL, we didn't do much beyond go to the...

    Suunto Mosquito - recurring problem

Hi, Me and my buddy have had Mosquitoes for several years, never a problem. I'd push to have it factory checked, and press for warranty repair/replacement. Especially for something like this, it helps to point out the the manufacturer that while you can sell many computers, you only get to...

    boat damage - liability question

Well, in the absence of any clear record of any agreement for the towing, etc., I would advise the good samaritan to cheerfully offer to pay for the tower damage ... right after the broken boat owner pays the towing invoice (which I would say is at least 2 times the damage ;-). Conversely, make...

    Who dives with 2 computers?

Hi, My wife/buddy and I have two computers, and it has been useful. Here's how it came about: We went on a cruise, and planned a bunch of diving. We had console computers, recently serviced, which had tested OK before leaving. However, upon giant stride for first dive, both computers flooded...

I want to dive.. The great barrier reef

We just finished a Mike Ball liveaboard (out of Cairns), that was awesome! The reef is a bit of a boat ride out, making liveaboard a good option. You can see more of the reef that is out further. Port Douglas is an excellent place to get over jet lag for a few days beforehand ;-). Cheers, W

Have you ever considered the risk??

Ummm ... "Not safe", hence the need for the training ... There is very limited training in OW cert courses for dealing with an OOA diver under controlled circumstances (the OOA diver is under self-control, and requesting aid). There is no training for aid to a panicked diver. Same goes for a...

Have you ever considered the risk??

Hi, There is definitely risk in attempting to aid or interact with any panicked creature (human or otherwise; on land, on water, or under water). These risks are mitigated by training in how to assess and manage the situation ==> Various programs such as PADI Rescue Diver training. A key...

same or different regs for pony and back gas (mk17 vs poseidon xstream)?

So ... we agree. Pony reg should be quality, should be well-serviced, and should be capable of providing needed function under extreme conditions of failure of primary reg ... I just wanted that to be explicit and clear on that, I felt your original post may lead someone to just pull...

Health concern, alergies and nasal congestion

Hi, I have had somewhat chronic mild nasal congestion (probably developing more allergies over time) for years. Thought it might be a problem diving when I started, but it has turned out not to be. As long as you can clear, in fact, I have found diving to be really good for my sinuses: You...

same or different regs for pony and back gas (mk17 vs poseidon xstream)?

Wasn't specifically referring to the Conself per se, not very familiar with it. Just making the point to go for quality, and perhaps an older reg lying around should be vetted against the need (it may be shelved for a reason ...). Cheers, Walter
