How Early Do You Plan/Book a Trip?

I go to either extreme depending on the situation. I've got three weeks in Yap/Palau booked for the end of the year already which was done to take advantage of Aeroplan miles. But if I see a seat sale for Cozumel come up that leaves next week I'll be out the door and heading South.

Tovatec IFL 550 - Anyone tried one out yet?

Thanks, but understand how rechargeable batteries function in that respect. The adjustable Tovatec is a heavier light and also runs on the CR123's.

Tovatec IFL 550 - Anyone tried one out yet?

Looking for a new light for travel / warm water use. I like that this one takes AAA's so I can go with rechargeable. Worried that the beam angle might be a little narrow. Was looking at the Tovatec Wide Angle Torch which I like everything about except that it runs on CR123's.

Need dive boot suggestions for wide feet

Need to replace my dive boots as the old ones finally came apart, and of course the company that manufactured them is no longer in business. I have extremely wide feet which makes it difficult to find a good fit, and prefer a hard sole high top with side zipper. Thanks in advance for any...

    Aluminum backplate durability question

For me it's less the packing weight and more the dive weight. I discovered in Belize a few weeks ago that by myself in a full 3mm suit I am negatively buoyant in salt water these days. Geared up I have no other weight on me than the bp and I sink like a rock. My preference is to be a close to...

    Aluminum backplate durability question

I did take a look at the DSS Kydex hybrid. Interesting, but much more expensive. I'd want to try one on before buying it.

    Aluminum backplate specs please

Can you give me the dimensions of your aluminum backplate please? Trying to see how close it will line up with my Halcyon storage pak. As well, your website lists it at 2#, but in the details it says 3#? I'm assuming 2# is the actual weight? Thanks.

    Aluminum backplate durability question

Thanks all for the replies, looks like I be ordering an aluminium backplate. Crazy brand options these days, HOG, DiveRite, and OMS seem to be the ones that are easier for me to get my hands on. Of those the HOG looks nice, just need to confirm the specs.

    Aluminum backplate durability question

Okay, I'm currently diving a SS back-plate. Basic Halcyon Eclipse. I want a lighter option for warm water. Aluminum back-plate like the one from HOG looks like the best bet for me. (I like the 'skeleton' travel one that oxycheq sells but I'd lose my Halcyon storage pack.) Aluminum being less...

    Liveaboards with Monday departures?

Looking to be flying into Cairns on a Saturday or Sunday. Trying to find live-aboards with a departure early in the week. Suggestions?

    Vanuatu diving any good?

Headed for Australia and extending my trip for a little vacation. Trying to figure where to go and noticed that Virgin Blue flies into Vanuatu. Anyone been there recently? Are there any live-aboards? I'm doing some research but find I'm a litttle pressed for time...

    Dec 2007 SB in Coz

Question like that will get you as many opinions as there are dive shops... I've used Papa Hogs for years and have always been happy with them. I've heard good things about Christi's operation, Blue XT-Sea, but haven't used them personally. There are a couple of operations I have had bad...

    Dec 2007 SB in Coz

Thought I'd start this one if nobody else has. I'll be there from 16 to 23 December, staying with Papa Hogs. Anyone else down in December?

    poll: drysuits

Bare XCD2 hypercomressed neoprene, bought to replace an old Viking (also a very solid suit). Went with the compressed for reduced bouyency changes at depth and for durabitliy. Got the attached boots because rock boots don't come in my size. Front entry, I can actually get in and out of it...
