Most interesting or unusual cold water place you’ve dived?

Smoky was located in Lancaster. He died a few years back and the shop is now closed. By your description it sounds like you did your dives at the Myerstown quarry. Bainbridge is close, too, but the depth there goes to about 100 feet. The open water platforms are at 25/30' though so it may...

Most interesting or unusual cold water place you’ve dived?

This goes back a few years to when I started diving. 1969 to be exact. In the Air Foce stationed on the island of Crete, Greece. Me and three buddies decided to dive a fresh water pool about 100 yards wide and 130' deep. I didn't own a wet suit at the time. When we got to the place and...

    Questions on Upcoming Bonaire Trip

Good point here to leave the windows down because most times the full coverage insurance doesn't cover broken glass. Also, I've done 9 trips to Bonaire in the last 6 years. My vehicle has only been bothered once and that was a night dive at Bari ree--nothing stolen as there was nothing to...

    Wetsuit and weights for Belize

I do have to say that you are seeing various answers here, which just proves what has been said about how personal choosing the right suit can be. Because I now do a lot of photo and video I always use a full suit, mostly for abrasion protection. For temps about 78 and above I use a...

    Curacao in 29 days!

Most of the dives I did with them last week were fairly shallow. Although they didn't mandate a particular depth limit they did suggest maximum depths of about 55-60', which seemed reasonable since most marine life is above that. There were a few times and situations (video shots) where I...

    Curacao in 29 days!

I've traveled the Caribbean a bit having been to Curacao in 2008 and it's sister island Bonaire 9 times in the last 5 years. The diving is similar at both islands and they've taken a pretty good hammering two years ago from off shore storms and the resulting wave action. This has some serious...

Filter? or correct color when editing?

I'm not aware that there are different shades or intensity filters. I guess you'd have to check with the manufacturer of your housing to see what fits. They may offer one. Just know that there are different color filters, too. There are red ones for fairly clear (tropical) waters and then...

Filter? or correct color when editing?

Unless you are using video lights then it's best to use a red filter during daytime dives. Editing programs can't add the red back into the video if it isn't there to begin with. What's equally important is to white-balance as conditions changeunderwater if your cam has provisions for MWB. If...

Shore diving - other destinations? Ideas please.

Jeff, I'll try to remember to PM you. I don't get on this site as much as I should. Too many other hobbies

Shore diving - other destinations? Ideas please.

I'm finding this conversation quite interesting due to the fact that I am doing a trip to Curacao in July. I'm traveling with friends and we will most likely rent a truck and do shore diving. We'll be staying at Kura Hulanda with 2 tank boat dives per day. Not being much of a tourist that...

Shore diving - other destinations? Ideas please.

I think maybe you looked at their rates wrong. I just got off their website and that $50 you mention is for guided dives. For just shore diving on your own I think I saw $9 per tank with a $25 maximum per day.

Can't do pictures. I only do video these days. Lousy me. Video will have to do. One week to go.

First time in the South Pacific

This might not be what you have in mind but try Scuba Diving Beach Resort Puerto Galera Philippines | Sandbar Divers Elizabeth's Hideaway. The place isn't real bi and fancy, but it's not bad, and even at twice the cost it would be decent. Presently a two week stay with 24 dives...

    Going to SCC in January....

Here's a pic of me. I'll be there Jan 22-29 with a small group from Lancaster Scuba.

    scuba today?

Where are you located in Pa. If close enough I could recommend a shop where people dive every weekend (usually Sunday). Too cold for me though.

    coz or bonaire

Listen to this. As I said before I've been to Coz 4 times and Bonaire 9 times, all within the last 5 years. The shore diving that there is in Coz will get old after a couple dives. The critters differ at night, but there just isn't much to see during the day. And there are only a couple...

    New flight schedule to Curacao

Good news indeed. I find a week trip too short sometimes and two weeks too long (grandkids). 10 or 11 days might be just about right.

    coz or bonaire

Having dove both places extensively over the last 5 years, doing photo and now video, I'd also recommend Bonaire. Drift diving has it's place, but with no or very little current it's a whole lot easier to learn photo skills at Bonaire. Somebody mentioned renting a truck to do your shore...

Mask Fogging due to oil in face

Old school or not it works. I do much the same and learned it back in 1969 when I started diving. Yep, clean the face with good ole sea water. Spit? You bet! And they are both free and always available. Nothing extra to carry around. Now, if I could only figure out how to spit in my...
