    Dumb Things I've Done

Under water, I've taken my regulator out of my mouth to start talking or to laugh.... I get so caught up in the beauty and thrill, I sometimes forget - Keep the regulator in my mouth! I've also jumped in the water without my mask. My dive buddy had "that look" and jumped in behind me with it...

Seeking info: diving w/ Color Deficiency

ClownfishSidney, thank you! I honestly didn't think of that. That is so true. We won't be purchasing his gear right away, but it his something to think about especially with rental gear. This is the kind of information we are seeking because unless one is in the same circumstance, we tend to take...

Seeking info: diving w/ Color Deficiency

Thank you, Jim. That's an awesome idea. Sometimes when one is too close to the problem, the simplest answer escapes us. I appreciate your suggestion.

Seeking info: diving w/ Color Deficiency

Thank you, Jim. Yes, properly identifying marine life will be a consideration, but as you said the best option is simply don't touch. I know that map reading (and sometimes diagrams) can be challenging for him, especially when they are color coded and the "trouble colors" are used together...

Seeking info: diving w/ Color Deficiency

Westone, thank you. That is reassuring. As I said, we are new to CD as no one in the family has ever been diagnosed before. Hopefully, our only concern is him not getting too sunburned on the boat, as he does have a difficult time distinguishing any redness of the skin. :)

I'm seeking info/advice from anyone who has experience about getting certified w/ color deficiency. A young member of our family has recently been diagnosed as broad spectrum color deficient (red/black, red/green, green/brown/orange, and blue/purple/pink). On the plus side, he has excellent...

    Returning found gear

Return it always or do my darn best to try any way. If I can't find the rightful owner after a while, I'll donate it to more "needy" divers. I never keep if for myself, or try to make a buck. I figure what goes around comes around. I once left my smart phone in a bathroom at an airport after...

    Hair Care when diving

Hey, I use VO-5 creme in my hair before I dive. It's not "slick" so my mask or hood doesn't slide. It penetrates the hair shaft so the hair isn't damaged from the salt and sun. As you dive, it gradually rinses out, so when you are do shower, it's easy to get the rest out. This has been a life...

    2011 Exercise and Fitness Challenge

Thank you for the welcome. I'm fortunate to have a very "outdoorsy" family willing to try new adventures. Since we've been blessed with phenomenal weather this week, I proposed a Thanksgiving hiking event in lieu of our traditional indoor sit down meal. We are going to hike to a beautiful...

    2011 Exercise and Fitness Challenge

Very motivational thread. I’m inspired to join your challenge. I haven’t committed to my exercise routine these past few months because I’ve been on quite a few mini-diving trips (always a good thing) ,which have disrupted my exercise routine. However, I’ve just returned from a 3 day...

    Dive Computer Cost

You all seem pretty knowledgeable about dive computers so Ihope you don’t mind if I toss in my own dive computer question that kinda goesalong the same lines of cost. Are there any computers specifically recommendedfor young teen divers? Obviously I’m looking for ease of use as...
