    Boating accident in PG

While this may be true, the international rule has much to do with maneuverability of the boats. ColReg 17, boiled down, is that the more maneuverable vessel, even if it is stand on, must ultimately yield right of way to avoid collision.

Tubbataha Liveaboard and South Leyte Questions

As for Southern Leyte - it has recovered quite well from the Typhoon Odette (Rai) which passed this way 2 years ago this month. Weather in June is usually fantastic. It's a good time to visit.

    Tacloban to Pintuyan

Sorry just seeing this - ask your hotel where the closest puv terminal to Sogod is. Buy yourself 2 seats each if traveling by van. Trust me. When you get to Sogod ask where the next van to San Ricardo is parked. There is no schedule - vans and buses leave when full to the gills (hence the buy...

Question 10 week Philippine vacation Feb 10 to April 20 with lots of diving- advise needed

As you know, you will receive a 30 day visa on arrival. You can renew your visa anytime before it expires for a 59 day extension. It looks like you might be in Coron towards the end of your 30 days - unless something changed since last I checked, there is no immigration office in Coron. So if...

You'll be fine. Plenty of dive shops in the area that will accommodate your every need at a reasonable price regardless of what your resort provides.

Question Cheap flights to Manila from NY?

I look at these flights east over the Atlantic and dismiss that option out of hand - way too hard on the human body. If Turkish Airlines allowed a free stop over, on the other hand, I might would jump at the chance. I was a ff on Cathay Pacific - the BOS (or EWR or JFK) non-stop to Hong Kong to...

Shout out to Dive-Tronix and Shearwater

After hundreds of flawless dives, my 2018 Perdix AI started talking back. Thank you Richard Morton from Dive-Tronix, the Shearwater Service Center in Snohomish, WA, and the unnamed folks at Shearwater in Canada for the courteous, friendly, attentive, communicative, and if it's good you name it...

Question Stay on Bangka or Gangga?

Concerning Coral Eye - Stayed there in March. Doors lock, there is 24 hour electricity, a safe in the room, and there is air con. The beach is fine and cleaned daily. The house reef is great to snorkel. Staff was friendly. Meals were very good.

Philippine Airlines - Pony in checked luggage

Not Not quite. Although they may once have been, in the Philippines regulators are not allowed in carry on and that's that. They will not allow you through the final security check point before entering the gate area. Seen it happen more than once. That said, regulators are quite rugged. No...

    Question Bira, sulawesi

Ok I'll bite. I was in Bira a couple years before the lockdown, to get on a Bira built boat heading to Wakatobi. Unfortunately, these are paper logged dives and my paper logs are thousands of miles away, so this is from unrefreshed memory: Unless you have a need to be in Bira for reasons other...

1 month in Philippines in march

Centrals has the options right but I'll add that as of now, the fast ferry (3 hours plus a little) leaves twice a day Hilongos to Cebu and v/v. There is also slow ferry service from Maasin to Cebu 4x/week. 6 hours. If it was me going to Dauin from Leyte I would take the ferry Bato Leyte to Ubay...

1 month in Philippines in march

March is usually a good time to visit Southern Leyte for the weather, diving, and whale sharks, which in all likelihood will still be feeding in Sogod Bay. And that partly explains why March is high season here, so if you are coming you will want to make your arrangements soon. You are probably...
