Arkansas Videographer Drowns in Tank while Filming Turtle

I'm guessing he was using the rebreather so that there were no bubbles to scare the turtle. Clearly he is not going to get too high PO2 in 3 feet of water. Something must have put him to sleep. Slow reduction in O2? CO2 build up? I guess he was a little too deep to use a snorkel.

    Looking for AI advice

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Club at Occidental Grand this Summer and loved it. Nice beach, good internet, and the Royal Club gives you a private restaurant for all 3 meals and a small private pool. Jungle and mosquitoes were not an issue in July.

Fatality in Komodo National Park, Indonesia - Aug 2014

In the Komodo Dragon story, one diver fought off the dragons with her weight belt. I guess it was good that she did not ditch them (but I am surprised she did not).

    Iberostar vs Sunscape Sabor

I have not stayed at either. Did you check out and price Occidental Grand? My wife and I stayed in the Royal Club a month ago and it was very nice. Royal Club has a private restaurant that was much better than the rest of the place. Orbitz had the best price of the numerous sites I checked.

    Water comfort in late September

I have been in March, May, July and the very end of August. I freeze without a wetsuit in the 78-79 degree March water, but never got the slightest bit cold with no wetsuit in the 84 degree late August water doing 4 dives per day. I also liked a wetsuit in May with temps around 81 (but surface...

    July 2015...Who's With Me?

My wife and I are staying at Occidental Grand July 6 through 10 for our anniversary. Definitely diving July 7 with Tres Pelicanos, but that may be it for this trip (wife does not dive).

    Cancun vs Cozumel Flight

Some might also consider that Southwest only flies to Cancun, not to Cozumel. The flight is from Atlanta, so it's probably not the best option for those west of the Mississippi. I think there are plans to add flights from Houston this year (still just to Cancun).

    airport/ dive?

If congestion is the reason, then allowing cabs to pick up off airport grounds should not be a problem.

    Back Roll Entry Head Injury

Was my post helpful to the average or beginner diver? If not, I am sorry for wasting your time. If helpful, does the tone of your response encourage or discourage people from sharing similar stories that may be beneficial? I was actually pleasantly surprised by how polite and cordial all the...

    Back Roll Entry Head Injury

Complacency is often the biggest problem. It is an obvious danger (gravity is cruel that way), but not one I had ever really spent time thinking about how to avoid. That has changed and I thought my story could help others. The biggest non-human factor that day was the wind. I rolled down...

    Back Roll Entry Head Injury

Background: I was on a boat in Cozumel with 9 divers, the DM and the boat captain. The boat had no capability for giant stride entry, so back rolls were required (common for Cozumel 6 packs). The entries for each of the previous dives were not highly regulated--more of an "okay go" and then a...

    Wet gear and overweight charges

Feeling okay, but the cut is healing slow and will likely leave a scar. I think I will add a post to Accidents and Incidents when I have the time. I never really thought much about that danger and there are several lessons I learned that will prevent that from happening to me again. I also...

    Night Dive

Servando at Tres Pelicanos wears one black fin and one yellow fin which makes him very easy to spot. I usually will wear a backwards baseball cap under my mask strap. There are many things a buddy team can do to stand apart from the crowd to make it easier to keep track--day or night. Glow in...

    Night Dive

I did a night dive at Paradise last Friday and at Paso De Cedral Saturday night. Paradise had many more critters. There were so many octopi that it became no big deal to see another one. One really fun thing to do is feed the coral and anemones--when the little fish and worms start swarming...

July - Diving Solo - Cozumel, then Mujeres or Holbox - Looking for Op, Advice, Etc!

I agree that vacation is not a good time for rescue checkout (or coursework). Those check out dives can be stressful and there is no extra time to look around like for other certification dives. That is a good class to take at home and check out in a crappy-vis lake where you can totally focus...

    Rain

Rain does not affect the diving, just the trip there and back and the SI if the boat does not have a waterproof cover and a front windscreen. A poncho would have been very helpful.
