Fatality off Bald Head Island - NC

I have been quite on this thread, hoping to get more information from both DAN and the coast guard. Unfortunately, I am still waiting. I knew Don, he was a friend and my animals veterinarian. I am a USN/NOAA/UHMS diving medical officer that teaches dive medicine to other physicians. The...

Fatality off Bald Head Island - NC

Without more facts it is difficult to acurately analyze the accident. Key information needed is the mix he was breathing at the time(hopefully there was still enough gas (even though he ran out of air) in his tanks to be analyzed after surfacing) , prior oxygen exposure at depth, tech rig ( gas...

    The SDA troubleshooting/failure thread

Tested the unit this week, worked great for 6 dives on the 7th dive, it was reading a few feet shallow compared to my reference computer. It surfaced normally, was a bit low on power (25%) and turned off normally. The dive was to 35 feet for 60 minutes. when I got back to the room and reached...

    Trouble with SDA after flying

Actually the vacuum is enough to bring the unit to the surface. After about 12-15 cycles, I manages to clear the deco requirement and desat the unit. Un fortunately, it still resets to a pressure offset when recharged. This time the pressure offset has reduced to 15 feet. When I tried with just...

    The SDA troubleshooting/failure thread

After a lot more cycles of charge the unit, place it under a controlled vacuum, let it discharge at 10 feet, the deco requirement is now gone, it now reads 23 feet at surface pressure( from 28 feet, it slowly surfaces with each cycle). I have it in the vacuum tank again, brought it to 15 feet...

    Trouble with SDA after flying

Yes it was soaked in freshwater. With the vacuum cycles have managed to get the depth down to 24 feet, it seems to be dropping about 1 foot per cycle ( charge it , place it under fresh water in a vacuum canister, slowly increase the vacuum so the units reads 10 feet ,it shows 480 minutes of deco...

    Trouble with SDA after flying

Did that, now I get a reading that there is 480 minutes of deco needed at 10 feet. Ran a few cycles of charging, vacuum battery goes dead and recharging, still get 28 feet when it comes back to life and 10 feet for 480 minutes deco stop.

    The SDA troubleshooting/failure thread

Still trying to get the SDA to the surface mode, have rigged a vacuum chamber with my vacuum sealer and have gotten it to the 10 foot stop so far, it shows 480 minutes of deco at 10 feet that has not changed after 4 days. The unit lasts about 28 hours then powers down due to lack of battery...

    Trouble with SDA after flying

Anyone know if there is a master reset procedure for the SDA? ie which switch sequence would reset it? Still looking for a vacuum chamber to desat and surface my unit to see if it will work, still stuck at 28 feet with a 20 foot deco stop for 432 minutes (down from 434). Depth changes with...

Will I nee to place the entire unit into a vacuum chamber or is there a place that I can apply suction to on the unit. May take me a while to find a vacuum chamber. Thanks for the reply

    The SDA troubleshooting/failure thread

Placed the computer in water in my Hyperbaric chamber and dove to 66 feet. It did not reset from the 28 ft depth reading. current screen is a deco stop screen showing current depth at 28 feet, with a 480 minute deco stop at 20 feet. The computer did record appropriate depth changes plus 28 feet...

Any plans for a color version of the x1? How about the capability of displaying tank pressure and remaining air time?

    The SDA troubleshooting/failure thread

It seems that I have an Uemis with a stuck depth sensor. This occurred after the second of two freshwater dives (74-78 degrees) on the first day we used the computer. It is stuck at 28 feet and incurred a decompression debt of 480 minutes at 20 feet and 10 minutes at 30 feet. (our max TDT was...

    Resuming freezes

anyone know how to get the computer out of alarm mode? After a second benign dive to 30 feet in freashwater, the unit worked great during and immediately after the dive, then about 6 hours later it started alarming claiming a missed deco stop at 40 feet, deeper than our dive profile. Now it...
