Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the lack of medical information. Norhing like this has happened before and I snorkeled fine 2 days later.
The only problems I've had are high blood pressure about 15 years ago but never since and it was very good recently. I am 35 now. I had a reverse block...
I'm currently in Naama Bay in Sharm and carried out 3 long daytime snorkels with no incident. I cut a fourth short due to a strange current that made it no fun for a lot of effort. I am not an experienced snorkeler but I have also snorkeled elsewhere and felt fine.
Last night I went on a...
Just wondering what opinions people have about completing PADI Open Water checkout dives in Cuba? I am reading very mixed reports about gear quality, which may be less of a problem for experienced divers.
Basically, after taking in to account flying in and out, I will have:
2 days in Havana...
Thanks, I'll take a good look through all of this.
I've just had a go at this. It is breaking at the bottom skirt, very slightly to the side of the two nostrils, hamster cheeks aren't helping here I guess. Having regs in also raised my upper lip quite a bit which I forgot to mention...
It is breaking whether air escapes or not, I can't replicate it when out of the pool though. The only thing I can suggest is I have a small face as it is always the gap between the nose and lip where the seal breaks. In any case it happens when I equalize the mask with even the tiniest amount...
I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but I would really appreciate some advice on how to improve or change what is happening when I equalize. Before I describe the current problem, I will fill you in with a little background information.
I started the PADI open water training in...
I hada horrible first session due to mask clearing. So bad in fact I was allowed to spend the rest of it just swimming under Water instead.
I practiced loads every day at home after that by standing in front of the sink and mirror pouring water in from a small glass, holding it there a while...
I haven't had problems before equalising. It is just that one session and it feels like an exceptionally mild cold now. I won't dive till it's gone and if it recurs when I restart I will end the diving and see a doctor.
So far I I've had five sessions (PADI OW)
1. Botched CW1 so just a trial dive effectively
2. A second 'trial' to get confidence up
3. CW1 passed easily
4. CW2 passed easily
5. CW3 passed but the instructors feel before I do OW1/2 or CW4 I would benefit from repeating or just a practice pool...
I have an Oceanic Ultradry Mini. It prevents most water getting in but I haven't been in open water. It always seems to float in the bottom corner of my field of vision no matter how positioned.
Definitely not alone. I had my first pool session last week. I am not the most confident person generally but I managed to get myself fairly confident for the first pool session. Until I kept getting a nose full of water practicing partial mask clearing. After that I was just split off for the...
Well thanks to the help of others in this thread, I finally managed to get an earlier appointment for 24 August so I should be able to start training on by the end of August.
In case anyone else happens to come across this thread with a similar difficulty, my appointment is with a consulant...
We have relatives in Skelmorlie we stay with so might be able to get out there some time :)
Is BSAC pool training then OW dives in a similar format to PADI?
They did advise there was a medical questionnaire on my first visit but that was more a chat asking about the course etc. The second one the guy who was covering the shop when i signed up wasn't allowed to do medicals so I paid for it non the wiser. There is a moutain of small print on the PADI...
The problem with the BSAC is it is the same route, i.e:
1 - Fill in self declaration form which asks if I have ever had high blood pressure (yes 12 years ago...)
2 - Can't dive, BSAC and PADI both require questionaire signing off by doctor
3 - Majority of doctors won't do it
4 - Pay expensive...
Because my doctor won't sign the form for SCUBA and after ringing around 20 doctors surgeries in the last couple of days, nor it seems will the majority of doctors in the area.
Some of those on the HSE site also used to do SCUBA certification.
It doesn't seem very scientific, same odds of heads and tails if you keep flipping a coin. I think I am going with red just in case something is ever proven though ;)
