Best place to dive in Michigan?

Thanks! As we'll be heading up north anyway, if you had to choose between diving out of Port Sanilac or Alpena which would you choose?

Best place to dive in Michigan?

Hi! I'm going to be visiting Michigan mid-July to early August and would like to do some diving while there. If we have to pick just one location in the state to dive where do you recommend? I understand there's some great wreck diving to be done, especially up north. Some context: I don't...

    French in Reunion Island

For those of you on Facebook, the photos in this group give a good idea of what we see underwater in Reunion: Biodiversité de la Réserve Naturelle Marine de la Réunion.

    French in Reunion Island

I blogged about diving in Mayotte here: Smart Travels: Diving in Mayotte. For me Mayotte has been some of the best diving I've done in the south-west Indian Ocean (my comparisons for the region are north- and south-west Madagascar, Moheli (one of the Comoros Islands), Mauritius and Rodrigues)...

    French in Reunion Island

Yes, we can dive all year long, water is about 28-29°C from December to March during the hot, rainy season, and only 23°C in July and August during the middle of the cool dry season (but I need a hood and a 5mm wetsuit at that time of year!). Diving is mainly concentrated along the sheltered...

    Recommendations for Norway?

Can anyone recommend a friendly dive club in Norway where we could dive this July? I'm looking for a club anywhere along the coast where we will be able to rent kit and have a guided dive.

Africa's Indian Ocean - where to dive next?

I'm just back from my dive trip to Moheli in the Comoros Islands. It was very off the beaten path. Moheli is the smallest of the three Comoros Islands and only gets about 400-500 tourists a year, only a small percentage of whom are divers. You can dive Moheli Marine Park from Laka Lodge Hotel...

Given the choice between the Andaman and Lakshadweep islands which do you recommend? It'll be for next March.

    Anyone ever dived Moheli?

Hello, has anyone ever dived at Moheli in the Comoros? I've dived Mayotte before, and the diving was great, but I can't find much information about Moheli. Getting there wouldn't be a problem as I live in Reunion so can fly there fairly easily via a direct flight to Grande Comore or Mayotte.

    Africa/Indian Ocean in July

Just to add to previous comments, do contemplate Reunion Island. As Wingy says the diving is not up to Maldives standard (or Nosy Be during whale shark season, which is late October to early December), but as an island that belongs to France (like Hawaii is part of the USA) it's probably the...

Mauritius Madagascar Seychelles Reunion Island Jan 20

December, January and February are the cyclone & rainy season in the Indian Ocean (nothing to do with the weather changing - it's been like that for thousands of years ;-) ), so while the weather can be pleasant there can also be changes in the weather and torrential downpours. Reunion and the...

    Eclipse diving

Has anyone ever dived during an eclipse? Here where I live (Reunion Island, Indian Ocean) we have a 97% annular solar eclipse tomorrow (Thursday 1st September). If weather conditions hold we're heading out to sea, will watch the maximum at 2:10pm local time on the boat, then slip into the water...

Best place to dive in Western Ireland

I'll be visiting Ireland at the beginning of August and would like to spend a day diving off the west coast. Any recommendations on the best place to dive anywhere along that coast? And any corresponding dive club recommendations? TIA

    Where have I missed?

In Reunion the only PADI-certified dive centre is Abyss at St Leu, which is where we dive. But none of the 25 or so other clubs will turn you away if you don't have French FFESSM certification.

    Where have I missed?

For me, in the SW Indian Ocean, Mayotte has the best diving. I blogged about diving there: Smart Travels: Diving in Mayotte. For Nosy Be try Aviavy Hotel. There's a dive club run by a British guy right behind it, and other clubs nearby.

    Diving in Réunion? Any advice...

Hi Alice, I too am not getting e-mail alerts when someone replies to a post I've answered, so I've only just seen your message now. Did you visit Reunion in the end? Did you like it? Catharine

Africa's Indian Ocean - where to dive next?

Rodrigues occasionally crops up as a possible SW Indian Ocean dive destination, and as I'm just back last week from a week's diving there I thought I'd let you know how I got on. (For those that don't know:Rodrigues is a small Mauritian island about 600 km ENE of Mauritius. It covers only 108...
