Southern Leyte, Visayas & Malapascua - Philippines

Took a 14 day liveaboard trip on the Philippines Siren with the GH5. Highlights were thresher and whales sharks. Visibility was cloudy at times but overall the weather cooperated between some showers every now and then. The drone didn't survive the trip! But I recovered it and the files from...

    Halmahera & Lembeh Indonesia

Here's a video of a recent trip to Halmahera and Lembeh in Indonesia from June. It was nice to finally get out and travel again. And, I didn't catch covid in the process. :-) The trip was onboard the MSY Seahorse, a 12 day liveaboard departing from Bitung. Visibility deteriorated as the trip...

Socorro Islands aboard the Solmar V

Thanks! Water was warm. In the low 80s. I wore a 3mm wetsuit. There were some thermoclines in spots, but I never felt cold.

Socorro Islands aboard the Solmar V

Hi John, I don't use continuous auto focus and do almost everything manually. I do have back-button auto focus setup up. So, for example, I frame up a subject, push the back-button focus to auto focus on the subject. If the subject goes out of the depth of field, it will go out of focus. This...

    Exploring the Salish Sea

The cold waters of the Salish Sea contain many beautiful and colorful marine creatures. With the world in challenging shape this past year, I feel fortunate to be able to visit them every now and then. Here's a compilation of various visits throughout the pacific northwest. Comments and...

Socorro Islands aboard the Solmar V

I agree. Nice boat with great common areas, but small cabins. We were in the slightly larger cabin and it was still quite small. It was comfortable though. The upper sun deck could have had more coverings for shade as it was only half covered. I'd go back on the Solmar V again.

Socorro Islands aboard the Solmar V

Thanks! I flew the drone from the main boat-Solmar V. At that point in the trip we were going out to the dive site in different groups. So, I suited up and was ready to go in the second group. That gave me the opportunity to fly the drone, capture some footage, then race the drone back to land...

Socorro Islands aboard the Solmar V

Thanks! Hope you have a great trip. I also saw tiger sharks and false killer whales, but didn't get good footage of them. Seeing a humpback would be awesome. Hope you do!

Socorro Islands aboard the Solmar V

In November I managed to steal an adventure from and otherwise difficult 2020. After getting Covid-19 tested, keeping a temperature log and donning two masks, I ventured to the Socorro Islands for the first time with the GH5 on the Solmar V. I head read all the reports of camera housings getting...

    Ambon Indonesia with the GH5

Thanks CWK. For this video I mainly used the 60mm. On a couple dives I used the 12-50mm. I have the CMC-1 mounted on the lens port, but I don't recall using it for the footage in the video.

    Ambon Indonesia with the GH5

I have a GH5 setup and I use the tripod ball mounts with the xit404 tripod legs. It's hit to the wallet but stable. Tripod 20P Leg w/Twist Clamp Kit (1 leg) 20% Lighter Mounting Ball Set for Tripod Legs ~for NA-GH5/G9 Prior to this I used an Ultra Light Control Systems tripod: Ultralight...

    Ambon Indonesia with the GH5

Thank Pearlman. I use a tripod for macro video. There is no other way to get stable footage because the subjects are so small and the lens magnification so great. Yes, the zooming is done in post. The stabilization comes from using a tripod. If the footage is shakey, I hit delete!

    Ambon Indonesia with the GH5

Stopped in Ambon last October for a few days of diving after a LOB trip in the. Banda Sea. If you haven't dived Ambon it's well worth the stop as the macro life is wonderful and abundant. This was my second time visiting and diving with Critterjunkies. Here's the video of the underwater...

The Banda Sea aboard the MSY Seahorse

Yes, our room was off the camera room. That may have been more insulated. I had two other buddies below deck. One said he slept like a baby, the other did not and had similar ideas as you about paper wedges! :) Stephen was the cruise director, but Akim was also onboard.
