Deco time needed for diving the Titanic?

One way dive :) Think of "Hotel California".

Petrel giving battery change notification without battery change while on deco.

It maintained the tissues and deco schedule as well as a flashing red warning around the deco stop depth and time, everything else such as dive time and depth cleared.

Petrel giving battery change notification without battery change while on deco.

I practice as you do, in this case, the Battery Changed notification came on without an actual battery change while underwater on a deco stop. On the plus side, although the bottom time, max depth, etc were zeroed out, the deco schedule remained. Any Shearwater reps with any input?

    Lake Jocassee SC Diver Injury

I'm one of the divers who regularly dives the Attakulla Lodge ( google it ) when we get a group together. Lake Jocassee has an interesting history and there is lots to be seen, and some of it is beyond the recreational limits. Conservative at those depths is padding your deco schedule ( if you...

Petrel giving battery change notification without battery change while on deco.

Battery life was not the issue, failure/battery changed notification came on with half the battery life remaining. This is a notification that comes on after the battery has been replaced, not one indicating that the battery is low and needs to be changed. Has anyone else had this happen?

Petrel giving battery change notification without battery change while on deco.

No, battery is in great shape as well as the battery contacts, battery compartment dry so no leakage from the housing.

Petrel giving battery change notification without battery change while on deco.

While on a 20 ft deco stop following a 300 ft 20 minute dive, Petrel battery change notification came on (obviously without battery change). Following the dive, I turned the Petrel off and placed it on a bench, the Petrel turned on spontaneously and then again gave battery change notification...

    Why a 120 tank?

I dive 2 steel HP 120s, I'd rather have gas I don't need at depth that to need gas I don't have at depth.

Deep Air Poll. Well, Someone Has To Put Their Head Over The Parapet...

Used to dive deep air until I started with trimix, with helium's future, may be doing deep air again.

Anyone done their PADI AOW at Lake Jocassee in S.C.?

Lake Jocassee is an awesome place to dive with many sites. You hit the ramp which is my least favorite, you need to hit the boat charter for the Wall. Junk and Cemetery. Bill is a great instructor, as is Dan Ettinger. I completed my Tec and Trimix certs with Bill and recommend him highly...

    Smoking on a dive boat

I'd like to know the charter so as to avoid scheduling any dives on that boat, thanks.

    South Carolina

Scott, hope to see you around Lake Jocassee in the near future. Bill Routh is an awesome instructor and Lake Jocassee has plenty to see for all levels of experience.

    Not so good certification.

What more can one expect when he/she seeks out and trains with the cheapest instructor ( if he is indeed a legit instructor )? Diving is one of those inherently dangerous sports, it's what one doesn't know that will be his/her demise. Maybe the neighbor weighed what the value of his life is...

How many tech "solo" divers are on the solo forum?

I do solo tech dives. Often difficult to find other tech divers to dive with, or I often find conflict in dive planning such as a potential dive buddy insisting on the use of a high helium % not necessary for the planned depth. I really only have two potential divers to dive with, one is an...

    Skip twinsets, go sidemount

Sidemounting is great. Become proficient with your set up and purchase quality components. As knfmn indicated and as I've seen, there are many who sidemount and lack proficiency, many have homemade attachments which serve their purpose poorly. Unfortunately, these folks give sidemount a bad...

Sidemount Deco Cylinders - top or bottom mounted?

Top, right rich, left lean. I carry 4 deco bottles (alum 80s) on 300+ft dives without issues. Gas mixes are marked top and sides for verification on my part and for other team members. Why? I'm comfortable with this configuration and it works for me.

    Shearwater Petrel Review

I too prefer the Predator over the Petrel; although, I would be hard pressed to to recommend the Predator over the Petrel for some one who is going to use it mostly for recreational dives. I use mine as a back up to the Predator for deep/deco dives or as a stand alone with recreational dives...
