    Scubacuba reviews?

Hi Goalieboy29, The high points are: - The dives were among the best (of 100 dives I've done on the island) and it was easy diving. - The food was cooked to order, no nasty, over-warmed food from a buffet, some said it was overcooked, but I liked it. - Lunch and dinner were 5 course meals...

    Wanted Nvm

It looks like the purge button is made by Diveator Interspiro, part number 336 100 432, sold as a 5 pack as part number 336 190 487. I don't know where to buy those but maybe knowing this will help. Maybe a 5 pack from them isn't much more than a single part from Sub Gravity.

It's likely the problem you're having isn't subsurface related but related to simple Linux permissions. You need to have permission to access /dev/ttyUSB0. Usually this means adding your user to the "dialout" group. Once added you'll need to logout and log back in again for it to take effect.

How Cave Shops Calculate Cubic Feet

My concern isn't about ideal gas vs real gas or minor rounding using tank factors. It's about 20% or so overcharge for gas. And I'd even be okay with that if the cost of gas was comparable. So a shop selling 12.5c/cu ft gas but overcharging by 20% is the same as a shop charging 15c with accurate...

How Cave Shops Calculate Cubic Feet

Are Florida cave diving shops selling hot gas? I returned to Florida caves with my transmitters and being the numbers nerd I am I decided to take a little time at the end of the week to calculate my gas usage. I was wondering if the fill card I had on file was enough to cover my week of diving...

    New Diver in Ontario

Dave's response reminded me of something I should have mentioned. You can dive these waters with a 7MM wetsuit just fine, although avid divers usually justify the cost of a dry suit. You'll be renting a wetsuit. 7MM is very buoyant and often divers will use a dual-layer "jacket and johns"...

    New Diver in Ontario

You need to place a diver down float. I suggest you buy an SMB and a finger spool and use a block of lead as an anchor. Or you can tow it. There are two common dive sites: The Tugs: Located on Bay St near the intersection of Earl St. There's a deck there, a bathroom and a map of the shipwrecks...

    New Diver in Ontario

I have dive buddies in that area, several. They routinely dive the J.C. Morrison wreck (25 ft depth) just off Centennial Park. they also dive Shanty Bay where they have lots of stuff placed in the water (depths to 100 ft or more.) I'll see who they dive with. In the past, Diver's Den would rent...

    New Diver in Ontario

I should also give you a head's up for local diving. Shops generally recommend you do your first cold water dive with a dive professional but are happy to arrange something like that. You'll need tank fills, rentals likely, and new equipment so they're happy to have you in the shop and they...

    New Diver in Ontario

Find a dive group. There are fomal, non-profit organizations, there are more ad-hoc ones, and dive shops sometimes run their own. I'm in Waterloo and we have an informal group, mostle centred around a quarry just north of Cambridge. One of our local divers also runs the KW Scuba Social, who...

    Wanted Wanted: KISS Sidewinder

A buddy and I (In Canada) are looking to buy used Sidewinders. Here are the must-haves: Syntactic foam insulated canisters, Fisher or 4-pin cable. Here are the nice-to-haves: BOV HUD or NERD, common mods, like dual MAV, enhanced hose connectors, plugs spares kits Fischer

    Mistral rebuild clarification question.

Most mistrals directed air flow into the inhalation horn to create a "venturi" effect. Earlier models directed the air flow at the can or the edge of the horn. If you have one that directs air at the can or edge you can improve performance by directing it into the horn. You'd have to either...

I agree. I think the original Cochran was in 1990s and I suspect the Analyst software came out at the same time. It looks like it was designed for Windows 3.1 and hasn't changed. Mike Cochran seems to have been a genius electronics expert but you should never let that kind of guy write UI software.

Looking for help with hollis DPV

If you still have it I have ideas. The electronic controller in that scooter might consider about 23V to be a discharged battery. I think that's when it goes into "limp mode." So I'd say 18v might be the completely dead voltage. I replaced my battery 6 years ago with LiFePO cells. It was a bit...

The software in the original post was developed on Linux. A programmer would be able to port that for Windows or Apple and might be able to extend it to do other things too. I put it on Github so that others had access to the data structure and protocol. I created that software to develop the...

    New too me Mistral

It looks in good shape. It'll be nice to dive. I have no idea what the staple is fore, but it's surprising that it hasn't rotted. There was a special tool for holding those regulators and I've seen what I think are replicas for sale from time to time. I used this type of wrench wrapped in tape...

    Question Apeks TX50/TX40

If the price is right I would. First stages haven't changed since then and the second stages work pretty much the same. They even use the same service kits. The TX40 doesn't have a WOB adjust. I've seen a third party knob for sale, even bought a couple. Although it really isn't needed.

    DPV Scooter divers out there??

For lots of DPV diving you should connect with Dive Tech in Mallorytown. They scoot the St Lawrence weekly from what I've heard. Not being near the St. Lawrence we dive scooters usually when the dive calls for it. So if we need to go far for something, survey a large area, if we plan on towing...
