    Optimal Drysuit

Well I'm going to be a (slight) dissenter on this one, (though I haven't read the entire thing, but the anti-TLS posts are jumping out). I've got a TLS, (2010-vintage), and it's water-tight. (Knock on wood). Occasional leak from not sealing the ZipSeals properly, (my bad), and an odd leak on...

    DIR for open water certification?

A little late to the thread, but I'm with a shop down here in San Marcos that is "DIR-friendly" to put it mildly. If you ever want to come in and discuss the philosophy, the gear setup, or anything else, (or just go diving!), stop in anytime. We'll put something together, and I love to bring...

    Cow Springs-Steps and Boardwalk

    G250HP Questions

Mk25 is a solid reg. I'm less of a fan of the G250HP, since it's 1st-gen S600 guts in a G250-sized case, and there are lots of shims and band-aids in there to make it work. Better bet is to secure a Mk20 with a G250 (plain G250). It's better than the G250HP, IMHO, easier to service, less...

Double Hose regulators- Have you seen anyone diving them?

Our shop right now was in a similar boat. When we started, all jackets, even though my wife and I, (co-managemeners, and primary instructors), dove BP/Ws. Fast forward a couple of years later, and we are still in BP/Ws, all but one of our instructors is in a BP/W, all of our AI/DM staff is in...

Double Hose regulators- Have you seen anyone diving them?

I dive one. (See my username). Usually use a single Steel 72, though right now, I'm currently getting my US Divers triple-tank rig set-up with a harness, and once i do that, game on!

HIGH PRESSURE TANK vs LOW PRESSURE TANKS...?

I prefer LP tanks, not only for the fill advantages, but I seem to trim better in them, thanks to that extra 1-1.5" of length. It balances me better front to rear. I don't know why such a little bit makes a difference, but I've dialed myself in to the point that I can feel it. (All tanks...

Balancing wetsuit and steel tank bouyancies

I know a diver who is so morbidly obese, they can dive double HP120s in a 3mm wetsuit in freshwater and not be "unbalanced". Physiology definitely plays a role.

    An Observation On Trim

That's nearly it. Arms up, head back, feet and knees flat, butt slightly tensioned to flatten the legs, knees bent 90* (or so, depends on front/rear balance), feet dorsoflexed flat. You shouldn't have to "arch" your back, but I do slightly utilize my abs to flatten my back. I can tell when...

    Are you cave certified?

I'm a fairly new cave diver in San Marcos and would love to participate even in a support role. Unfortunately, I don't meet the desired criteria, but best of luck in your search! Looks like a good project.

    safety reel

Staking. It's a type of securing a screw. I usually stake a screw by "staking" or deforming the surrounding metal into the head to prevent it from backing out, or I'll stake a dovetail fitting by using a punch to deform the "female" part of the dovetail fitting into the male part, so they...

Why is DIN not the standard in diving?

    Because DIN is better.

For those that own a shop.

Exactly. To paraphrase the quote often attributed to auto or motorcycle-racing, (one of my other passions); How do you make a small fortune racing? Start with a large one.

GUE Fundamentals - It's go time!

Good luck man. I know you'll do well. I've been telling you for months that you're ready, now go DO it. I expect a full report when you get back, and then let's go diving!

    Most desirable ScubaPro 1st Stage .... ?

It depends. I'm a Mk17 guy, since I tend to prefer diaphragms, and I LOVE the way it routes in doubles, but I HATE the angle of the HP hose. It juts right at the wing and has to be carefully routed in doubles, and even impinges the wing with singles-routing. That said, I have come into some...

Is GUE Fundies right for me?

I find this hilarious. I read this ALL the time, yet GUE/DIR divers are some of the most colorful divers I dive with. As for myself, between my blue drygloves, my red drysuit overlay, my pink or blue doubles, yellow or pink Jetfins, and my clear or colored-diaphragm G250s, I'm like a dang...

Is GUE Fundies right for me?

Hey Zach, I'm Mike, and we have a small GUE/DIR crew up here in San Marcos/Austin/San Antonio. One of our guys is in the AF at Lackland, another is National Guard, and I'm prior Army, so I get it when you say that military types tend to be drawn to this training/philosophy. As it warms up, if...

    Did you move for Scuba?

Haven't moved yet, but it's going to happen and diving is the "prime mover" on that one, (no pun intended). Got family in FL, and would love to get a job there. Unfortunately, if there are no jobs, I'll have to follow the money, but I'm trying to lay the groundwork to get to N FL.
