What was it like buying your first dry suit?

What should be a great story alas was not meant to be. I ordered my first drysuit last year at this time. Ah, the excitement begins. I start researching undergarments and buy a couple of different thicknesses. Awesome. I have my warm water solution and my cold water solution. The undergarments...

    First regulator purchase

My first reg purchase was last year and before that I tried many different brands of rentals. I went with the HOG D1 single tank package and love them. Definitely best bang for the buck, and the maintenance schedule is easier on the wallet too. Let us know what you go with.

Edge Gear Stealth 2 BCD tank sizes.

Hi all, I had a question about the stealth 2 BCD with respect to tank diameter. I own this BCD and used a rental X8 130 steel tank and found that I could barely connect the velcro band that goes around the tank. This was causing me some issues getting a tight fit when I snap it. Should I not be...

    My SAC is really bad.

Yeah, I was just testing the camera for a friend. I don't actually own one. And after this experience, I am not going to buy one until I got this stuff figured out.

    My SAC is really bad.

Hey all, Thanks for all the tips. I've definitely noticed an increase in my breathing rate since going into the dry suit. I am still trying to work out the buoyancy, and I'm not paying attention to my breathing. On my last dive there were a few factors which I can see which would make it worse...

    My SAC is really bad.

I've just started using dive logging software and downloading my dive profiles from my DC, using MacDive and the Dive Log iOS app. I knew I was bad on air and maybe it's normal for someone so new (< 20 dives), but it became immediately apparent to me that I am not only bad on air, I am really...

    Drysuit training day tomorrow

Thanks for the great info all. I will keep experimenting. Tomorrow I am doing a wreck dive using a PST HP130. Any idea how much weight I should drop (from 28 lbs on a AL80)? I was thinking 22-24 lbs. The trouble with my setup is I am using AL80's on a BCD that can only fit around 26 lbs of...

    Drysuit training day tomorrow

My suit is an Edge drysuit. It's got soft boots on it. I got the suit back from my LDS. He was able to easily find it by inflating the suit while plugging the seals, and then using some soapy water in a spray bottle. Aquaseal over the hole... done. I've decided to not send the suit back until I...

    Drysuit training day tomorrow

My instructor seemed to think that 28 lbs was enough. I felt the buoyancy was right, and I had enough weight to keep me down at 10 ft, with an AL80 tank at ~500 PSI. I think it's close to right, but i just feel a bit vacuum packed. I am using a 2-layer polartec fleece garment 250g each layer...

    Drysuit training day tomorrow

I think I might need more weight. Should the amount of squeeze be impairing your movements at all? ie. Spreading legs, bending knees, bending elbows, etc? Should it feel about as restrictive as say a wetsuit? I'm getting neutral fairly well, but I'm still dealing with a good squeeze. I am...

Wreck Diving - St. Lawrence Seaway

I've done around 12 dives with fairly large groups at different locations along the seaway. I've never seen anyone go without a full wetsuit though. It does get up to the low 70's sure, but that's only for a short amount of the dive season. Once it gets in the 60's you ditch the hood though, and...

    Drysuit training day tomorrow

My instructor echoed most of what was said here in the forums about this, but in the end, I didn't use my BCD much anyway because relieving the squeeze was for the most part, keeping me neutrally buoyant. I think what I want to do is practice getting air out of the DS as much as possible, so I...

    Drysuit training day tomorrow

Well, I am drysuit certified! We did 2 open water dives, one at a wreck, and another at shallow area near the wreck. I felt pretty good with the buoyancy, but I got behind on the curve a fair amount, because when I stopped to let air out of the DS, I started going up. Nothing I could not correct...

Heading out tomorrow to our local quarry to do my first drysuit dives. I'll be getting the PADI drysuit specialty with my instructor... Back to square one on buoyancy I guess. Any tips?

    Suggestion on Dry undergarments?

low-40s with a base wicking layer and the undergarment which is 2 layers of 250g polartec. I go with wicking socks and wool socks too.
