You can also make up your own with a couple of O-rings. The poppet seat is harder, depending on the style of poppet you have. I have successfully replaced the 'non-replaceable' kind.
I don't think I have ever used an official service kit and I maintain a fleet of 6+ of them.
My rings never came off. I used full strength AquaSeal to reinforce the vulnerable edge. I have used AquaSeal in the past to install Kubi suit rings in the past and it has worked fantastic.
We're talking two styles. My PU suitside rings were glued on. It was the glove side rings that would warp. Might be our summer air temps of 39C or more.
The key with Kubi is to use rings that match the sleeve end diameter and not stretch the fabric. Any good seamstress can expand the diameter...
No, I left SiTech PU rings for the MUCH better Kubi system. I love the SiTech neck rings, but had nothing but issues with the glove side SiTech rings. They warp in warm weather. I struggled with them for about 400 dives before coughing up the money for Kubi. I wouldn't go back.
I had to use...
My acetone smoother bath is OUTSIDE, and uses a small one burner electric stove. I have a deep pot that is lined with paper towels. The towels are held up along the sides by magnets. Put a 1-2mm deep layer of acetone (nail polish remover is cheaper than hardware store and just the same if 100%)...
I had reflective tape over the sleeve. Part of the 'wear' was just tape residue. The only real wear was a very thin line right over the proximal edge of the Kubi ring.
Not since I got my 12' powered inflatable about 3 years ago. However, my previous suit had the same tear and it was during my kayak diving days.
I'm pretty sure it is mostly from the hard bend where the sleeve fabric is stretched over the ring.
Thanks.
If you do not have rings, you will not have this problem.
I don't stick my hands or wrists on/into anything except my camera grip and to
clip/unclip my sidemount tanks. It is because there is fabric crossing a sharp/abrupt edge. In this case it is worse since the fabric was stretched...
That is actually what I'm planning on using, except the type I have is glue on. I had to dig through my DIY supplies. I just wasn't sure it was abrasion resistant enough, but it looks like my best choice.
Just to be clear, the thoughts about Gorilla tape or other options was just for additional wear protection. I've already sealed the current leak with AquaSeal. However, I agree with nixing the Gorilla tap. I have some fabric backed 1mm neo repair tape. I'll go with that. It will look...
I really like my SeaSkin Nova, and it was a really good deal. However, there are a couple of things I wish they had done differently. It IS a custom suit. First, as a woman, my hips are bigger than my waist. They made the waist fit my measurements but forgot that the waist had to pass my hips...
Inside? Not really. It is very hard to access the area and the sealing edge of the ring would be covered.
I need something stretchy, so the reinforcing tape is smooth. Grosgrain might be good.
I wonder if I'm using too big a suit side ring for the sleeve size. Notice how in the pictures the fabric has to stretch to get over the rings.
I'm using 80mm rings, but 70mm would be better. The current suit is a SeaSkin Nova with the rings factory installed. I went with 80mm since I already...
I can narrow that down for you quite a bit. When I bought mine in August of 1971 the design had been on the market for 6 months. My dad didn't like depending on new designs, but felt his 14-yo daughter was better off with a new design, rather than depending on the problematic J-valves. SPGs...
I love my Kubi dry glove rings, but have had the suit material wear through twice (2 different suits) where the hard edge of the suit side ring goes under the suit material.
The first one I fixed with a fabric tape aquasealed circumferentially around the wear area. The second suit I...
I'm trying to source this part for something reasonable. Also has anyone ever replaced the seat into the carrier? If so, how? I think this is a Trident part A208-T2, but I have no direct access to Trident parts.
Thanks.
