To be clear, I got pretty soaked everywhere from the waist down but worse on the right side. The water started coming in on that side where the p-valve and zipper closure are since I could feel that sneaking cold feeling early in the dive. Once it poured in over the course of the dive, it spread...
I do have a p-valve on the suit but I never use it. I can take it off the suit but is there an easy way to patch the hole that's not permanent?
They did. The only leak they found was the zipper which they replaced, then retested.
It's in the right leg somewhere or possibly waist area, so unlikely to be a seal issue. Zipper has been replaced and I assume the shop's test would have found that.
I don't really have access to a pool but I suppose I could go down to the swimming beach on the lake and walk in 🤔
I'd been diving locally in cold water (Pacific Northwest) for about a decade when I gradually stopped in 2018. It was a combination of being spoiled with dive travel to warmer destinations, a backlog of gear maintenance, and worst of all a leaky drysuit. It had been leaky for a year or two. I'd...
You can always put standard latex seals on the ring system. However, you may just need to give the silicone seals some time and care. I broke a couple of the silicone seals when I first got them, but over time I've learned how to be more careful with them and haven't had to replace one in quite...
As somebody who's lived on Capitol Hill or in the CD for coming up on 10 years now, the key is to find an apartment/condo with some sort of on site storage. This could be a dedicated storage unit or a place with a lot of closet space. In my current place, we don't store scuba stuff in the...
Interesting to see this idea that AG put into UTD after separating from GUE years ago coming back now. The GUE Fundamentals + Tech 1 => UTD Essentials + Tech 1 + Tech 2 split always seemed more manageable to me.
If it has latex seals and has been in storage for 10 years, it needs new ones since the latex degrades over time. As for the zipper, is there a lot of fraying? How do the teeth look? Any crooked ones? Any gaps? The only test that matters though is if it leaks when taken underwater.
There's a fundamental tradeoff between standardization and customization. You standardize when the benefits outweigh those of customization.
Assumptions about team dynamics strongly drive the balance of that tradeoff. At one extreme you have the case of solo diving in shallow, benign...

Adding a wet diopter is the easiest way. I've heard of people using extension tubes as well, but it's more limiting. Unlike a wet lens, extension tubes cannot be removed underwater which means you'd be stuck doing supermacro for the entire dive.
There are a few effects it will cause. First...
I've been using them for about a year and a half. I've only gone back to latex when I had to find a replacement in a hurry. Availability and price have been the only downsides I've found. I did tear a couple wrist seals at first, but once I stopped pulling on them too much when doffing the suit...
I wish I could find the reference now, but I read somewhere (think it was here on wetpixel but maybe somewhere else?) that the cheap diopters often work better than the expensive ones when used to improve corners behind a dome underwater. Something about cheap diopters producing a more curved...
I think the vacuum lock is worth it. I've got it and insurance. I'd prefer the red light on the surface to filing a claim with the insurance company any day.
Strobe cables should be the same--sea&sea connectors on both ends.
For the ports and gears, you'll definitely want the gear for the...
Many of the sites commonly dived from either location overlap. For example, Lanta based operators regularly go to Phi Phi. Lanta is a bit farther south with better access to Hin Muang and Hin Daeng but they are still long boat rides. I'd go with the island that better appeals topside.
I assume you're talking about the fancier port and zoom gear combo for the 12-50 that runs about $800? I was talking about just using the port for the 60mm macro with no focus gear (only about $360), but instead using the electronic control of the zoom (i.e., no zoom gear to turn).
As far as...
Glad to hear scientists have at least isolated the cause, although it doesn't sound like any solution is on the horizon except for hoping these species can adapt. I continue to see small sunflower stars in Puget Sound, so there's hope.
