    Diver Dead in South Florida

Hot drops are fine, I bring a torpedo of course so boat can track me and the engines are shut down before We jump in. Yes it is easily done, if you worried about current and don’t have a dpv then drop a little further upstream. There is no excuse for engines being on. Counter arguments remind...

    Diver Dead in South Florida

No boat should have engines running anytime anyone is getting into or out of the water, or near people in the water. If the engines are not running, no one can get chopped up by the props. This is a basic rule of safety and there is no reason to not follow it. If a boat is afraid engines will...

    Vandenberg Deck Plans?

suggest dpv's would be huge benefit on a wreck dive such as that! If you do not have them, and not trained--you may want to be and purchase one...besides they are fun and dramatically lower a divers consumption rate when properly trained and streamlined, beats swimming, better for body, no co2...

    40% Nitrox

Why would you want to use 40% Nitrox? Why push a high po2? For me, I stick with 32% for everything less than 100 feet and add helium whenever possible to make work of breathing much easier, no narcosis at all, lower chance of CO2 build up and arguably better decompression (even...

    Tank Setup

if you properly plan gas management so that you leave bottom with enough gas for 2 divers to share while making all thier ascent stops or speeds, there is no need for a pony bottle. This presumes you also monitor your gas during the dive and stick to your plan.

Talk me *OUT* of a BP/W setup

Diving with a Backplate and Wing is very easy. I just finished teaching an "open water" class (GUE Rec 1) to 3 young girls, youngest is only 11.5 years old (pictured). You can see from the photo she totally rocks and had no problem with it at all. Using a backplate and wing facilitates a...

    Gas Management With Sidemount

Whats the fascination with Side Mount? How many people are diving really restricted areas where it is a benefit? The isolation manifold was created to add safety to back mounted doubles that were independent of each other until then. Side Mount seems to add a lot of complexity and introduce more...

Not diving to greater than 30m/100ft unless with helium

I have done a few dives over the years including deep dives before helium was used and after. I remember the days of having to buy a Hamilton table to test out Helium since the dives were getting complex and narcosis and O2 were definite issues. I remember being a “guinea pig” for...

Buy SUEX- I have had them for years without a single issue. Yes I sell them in Florida, you would buy in Europe so not a sales pitch. They are awesome.

    Accident in Belize

Read the thread, it clearly states that the boat was in gear and the bcd was cut nearly into two. There is simply no reason for a boat to have its engines on while anyone entering or exiting. In commercial diving, it would be locked out and tagged out as well.

    Accident in Belize

Just another illustration of why boats should always be off whenever anyone is exiting or entering the water. There is never a reason why the engines should be on other than laziness of the operator. Sometimes I hear the captain say they are afraid the engine won't start again, if so, why the...

dpv or rebreather? Or at least Dpv then rebreather?

I was not trying to sell scooters via my post, but as asked. See Technical Diving Solutions for any information relative to Suex or my dive services. I have been cave certified with DPV and a member of WKPP for over 20 years. I have maybe 5-600 cave dives, most were relatively deep and long as I...
