    Socorro islands

From experience my vote is for the Solmar. Just look where the boats are based from because your expereience depends heavily on their experience. The Solmar is based out of Cabo San Lucas, and the Nautilus Explorer is from, uh, Canada???... On my trip I was told the Nautilus only has like 3...

    First camera set-up

You could also pick up an older SLR(3 or 4 years old) with a housing specific to that camera for a reasonable price online. Technology is moving so fast, 3 years old is outdated but they still take fantastic photos. You can buy a Nikon D200 with a housing for around $1500 used. Even today, the...

    Live aboards what to expect?

RJP great posts. I agree on all points...Boats are boats, tip well and don't bring too many clothes cause you wont wear them! At least in the tropics. I really like being less than 20 feet from a cold beer at all times!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Aggressor Baja

I was considering going out with them but was convinced to do otherwise. I have heard they are having a very bad time with the govenment in Mexico and the boat bought a Aggressor franchise to save their dying business. From what I understand the owners are still the same.

Splitlip, Where is this from? "They called themselves Guerrilla Divers. Composed of elite divers with Macho mentalities, back when men were men, and FEAR was a lispy companion of the common Man. It was a time before insurance liabilities, lawsuits or beauracratic regulation of the "sport"...

    Crotch strap?

I agree with idocsteve. I have(had) one but never used it. I just make sure my waist belt is tight and I don't have any problems with "riding up". Then again, I never overinflate by bc on the surface. Just enough so my head is out.

What do you look for in a regulator?

I look for reliability and durability. I like a rugged reg that will not have broken second stage after you've flown around the world to a dive site. I pack hastily and that has happened twice. I still use the unbreakable conshelf 20. Its the only one that has served me year after year, trip...

    Something rattling in my tank

I would not dive with it if something is rattling. They should open it up and show you what the rattle was so you can be confident in your mind that the problem is fixed before going underwater.
