Becoming a Divemaster/ Getting foot in the door in professional diving

My LDS pays instructors but not the Divecons. If a divecon is needed for a trip, the LDS pays the trip cost. If not, the divecon can go at cost.

My wife and I will be staying at Siesta Key that week and looking for either dive buddy to go out with or recommendations for charters. She is new OW diver. I am in dive con program.

Custom manufactured BP/W with plans and directions

You didn't. That was why you bolted the tanks on. They just used the bullet holes as predrilled mounts.

Need to borrow tank for equipment check

My wife just got certified so we are trying to get her some gear. Looking on Craigslist we found a set I just want to hook a tank up to the reg and BC to make sure they work before buying. Once we have bought it, we would take to LDS and have them serviced just wanted to check the overall...

    ABS Backplate

I have been reading up on BP/W and see where people have mentioned using ABS to make the plate. What thickness would be best for this? Any suggestions or gotchas to watch out for?

    Noob BP/W question

Ok, so bolt patterns for the wings are fairly consistant. Is there a reason you would not go with a single tank adapter?

    Noob BP/W question

Are wings fairly universal or are you mostly limited to staying with the same maker for backplate and wing?

    DIY Scuba Tank Rack

I am going to guess you sealed the wood. That would be my only suggestion. Now I admire the beauty of it, it does seem to be more complex than needed. The workmanship is impressive. This is definitely more a show piece than just for function.

Are dive boats always so packed?

Yeah, I will concur. It depends on the charter company. I have not been on a huge number of boats, less than 24 dives at moment but I can say it depends on their boat. Seems if the operator is more profit driven, the ship is more packed and more like your experience. Those that more customer...

    Myrtle Beach

The tug/airplane/barge was a good dive. We also saw several large barracuda and oyster toad fish. The tug is large enuff you can do some limited penetration or just explore around it. I would recommend it over the Sherman unless you are artifact hunting.

    Dork hoods/wetsuits/gloves

I have seen the ones from Terrapin and think they are great. Does anybody have links to other makers like these that have dork worthy gear?

    Myrtle Beach

Just got back from Myrtle beach. I actually went out two different days, one with each of the companies. I can say two totally different experiences. First, I enjoyed all the dives. They were great. The difference was in the crew. Coastal Scuba made me feel extremely rushed and under...

    Myrtle Beach

When and who you planning on going with? I will be there the 8-9th and looking to dive. I would hope considering both Earl and Fiona should be well out of the area by Sun, the conditions will settle.

    What can I log?

Quoting from another thread. "In the USA training standards (Includes Canada), the definition of "Open Water" in SSI's standards is: 15. Definition Open Water: Open water is any body of water other than a swimming pool. Open water sites are to be realistic of local diving conditions." So...

Advanced Open Water SSI vs PADI

PADI AOW does not qualify you to dive deep either. It just means you have done one deep dive. The deep diver in both agencies is the qualifier. The advanced SSI card really means you do not have to carry around 4 different cards in case somebody ever asked.

    Nags Head Area Dive Shops?

When next month are you going? Still in the planning stages but I might be in that area Sept 6- 10ish. I am looking to do some diving as well.

Advanced Open Water SSI vs PADI

AOW and Advanced Adventure Diver are two different things. AAD looks to be equal to PADI's AOW in that you are sampling 5 different specialties. Not sure if there is an actual course for it. AOW is not a course either but a set of requirements. Whether that qualifies you to dive deeper or...
