Nauticam Fisheye Conversion Port: detailed review

Hi Wolfgang, Yes that's what I mean, whatever is sharp is really sharp, but the depth-of-field is shallow if you don't close the aperture enough. See the backlit soft coral example and included 100% crops. In comparison, I am happy enough shooting the WACP-1 at F/7.1 - F/8, and will go to...

Nauticam EMWL angled relay lens: field review

The support of image inversion in mirrorless cameras is lower than I was hoping for! Good to know on the A7R5 (and a bummer) OM1 I am not sure, but I played around the Z8/Z9 and couldn't find that function, repetitive Googling didn't help either.

Nauticam EMWL angled relay lens: field review

Just the 150mm-long one, but you can do without it, to keep the EMWL shorter. In that scenario, the image looks upside down, so you either need a camera that can invert the view (like a Sony mirrorless) or one of the Nauticam reverse viewfinders.

Nauticam EMWL angled relay lens: field review

Hey photographers, I have just finished a review of the Nauticam angled relay, which is a new accessory for their EMWL system of bug-eye lenses. In short, it makes it easier to frame your subject against a blue water background, sunball, model or all of the above. It's not suited for all...

Creating wreck panoramas beyond the limits of visibility

Hi all, I have long been a fan of Nicolas Barraque's wreck panoramas, for he shoots extra-large wrecks, typically over 250ft/70m in length, and manages to turn them into a single image! The conventional way to shoot wreck panos is to choose a spot near the center of the ship, and from there...

Creative Motion Blur technique (slow shutter speed)

Hi there, I thought this might of interest to some: I am giving an online talk next month (22/23rd November) on how to use motion blur to fabricate textured background (all in-camera), a technique which I really like to use (some of my shots attached). It is based on using a very slow shutter...

Nikon Z9/Z8 vs Nikon DSLR for underwater photography

Right I see what you mean now. I don't have the Z8 body anymore, but from memory I had the LCD screen tilted up. I had no issue toggling between EVF and LCD screen, which I think I did via the display lever, after having set "EVF only" and "LCD only" to be the only allowable modes (no...

Nikon Z9/Z8 vs Nikon DSLR for underwater photography

Hi Aaron, Happy diving with the Z8! You're going to love it. I am not too sure on which rubber piece you're talking about (post a photo?) but I certainly have changed my viewfinder settings for underwater use, shifting between "EVF only" and "LCD screen only" modes, as I noticed the eye...

Nikon Z9/Z8 vs Nikon DSLR for underwater photography

Hi Aaron, No offense taken, Alex's review has valuable insights and our field-observations nicely complements each others as he's tried the Z8 in tropical waters, while I focused on temperate waters. Unfortunately your Tokina won't be usable on the Z8 (or any Z camera at the moment) because...

Nikon Z9/Z8 vs Nikon DSLR for underwater photography

And here is mine, also published by DivePhotoGuide: https://theunderwaterclub.com/nikon-z8-underwater-review/ It took a little while to come out, as I really wanted to spend enough time in the water, to try the camera in variable conditions, including low visibility, low light. Overall a strong...

    Perhentian islands - snorkelling recommendations?

Hi everyone, My sister and her partner are going to visit the Perhentian islands for a few days and asked me for recommendations on where to snorkel (they aren't scuba certified). I haven't been there and the previous threads I've found were dated/more around Scuba sites. So, could anyone...
