    Best LDS in Phoenix area

I can tell you that tight budget and technical diving are not compatible. I can do your PADI certs if you want only PADI. I can also do TDI. Message me if you are interested. I have a couple other students in various stages of their tech courses right now and could fit you in.

    Rescue Diver question

Hammet, the short answer is YES. PADI recognizes any major CPR certification. As others have said, you really should take a hands on CPR course. You can renew online after that but getting over the dummy for a few minutes of 100 compressions a minute will be a big eye opener.

    Looking at a booster.

opie712, that booster will be fine for 40's. It should be fine for the 80's because you are not going to be filling them often. I have a friend that uses one for rebreathers and he loves it. As for rebuilds, he has had his for I would say about 5 years and it has never been rebuilt. If I had...

    4 3 2 bank question.

More banks is always better. Ideally (although not very practical), you would run 1 cylinder per bank. This shows it out to 6 single bottle banks. There is one running around the internet that shows 10, but this one gives you the picture. Cascade Storage Systems

    Hollis Prism2 Cover

Tammy, I will be interested to hear how it holds up. Mine is in the same condition and I have considered bed liner also.

    TDI Extended Range & Helitrox

Because the Helitrox course was designed to be in line with the Deco Proc course just adding a splash of helium. So the same depth limits apply. The 20% limit applies because it really does not affect your decompression, where the richer helium mixes can increase your deco obligation. Also...

Cost of TDI Advanced Nitrox course

Zach, There is a lot to consider in the price of the course. First I will reiterate what Andy said. Selecting an instructor for tech training should be a fairly involved process. You should ask them several key questions regarding their experience and what they primarily teach. You want a...

Should I incorporate as an assistant instructor or instructor?

I can only tell you what I was told. While instructing, you are on the hook no matter how you set things up. Setting up an LLC is cheap and you can keep expenses/income that relate to teaching all in a separate bank account. If you are an independent instructor and allow students to use/rent...

Reminder - Always Personally test your Nitrox Mix

As a blender, I can tell you that you should always test your tanks. Blenders are human and we make mistakes. Sometimes it is only a small fraction, sometimes it is several percent. There are many reasons it can happen, especially in a busy fill station. I have encountered one operation that...

    Open the Solo Forum?

Let everyone read posts. I like the idea of someone curious to have access to the information.

Jules and ???? in the Keys.

Steve_C, it is not likely we will get blown out for multiple days. Operators go in 6 - 8 seas. Those days, the deeper wrecks are the best as they get out of the surge. A few days ago we had 5 - 7 seas but zero current and 100'+ of viz. The ride out wasn't pleasant but the conditions are...

    Hollis Prism2

I have a P2 and have been diving it for a year. I only have 150 or so hours on it. I love the unit. I am also a service tech on it and it is reasonably easy to work on. The engineers obviously have small hands but I can live with that nuisance. The problem I have is with the company itself...

West Marine Scuba Shops-Within-Stores - What to you think?

They do the most certifications in the Americas when you combine all 50+ stores. The scuba dept is a loser in all but a few stores. Sport Chalet selling is probably the only thing that will save the company. It was losing millions annually.

    Failed PADI Rescue....now what?

After reading more of your posts, it is clear you need to find a good mentor. Find someone who is a good diver. Ask him/her to help you get your basic skills honed. Do a ton of diving. Confidence comes from being able to do the main things without thought. When buoyancy, air management...

    Failed PADI Rescue....now what?

Tell the instructor you want to know details of why you failed. He/She should be happy to give you detailed information that you need to work on. I don't like to "fail" students. I want to work with them until they are able to meet the performance requirements to my satisfaction. As long as...

    OW Checkout Dive Requirements

According to one agency a training dive is required to reach a depth of 15' and last for 20 minutes. Sounds like another lazy instructor just going through the motions and creating bad divers.

Master Scuba Diver. What do I need??

Straight from the SDI Standards and Procedures 11.3 Graduation Requirements Master Scuba Diver Certification procedures for students: 1. Completion of 4 SDI Specialty Courses or equivalent; only 1 course without dives, may be credited towards the master diver development program, with the...

Why does PADI not have a "Find an instructor"?

I understand the dive center side of things. I work for one in each of my home bases. The problem that a student of mine had recently is that he wanted a specific course and had to call three dive shops to find one with an instructor that could teach the course. Even if the dive center lookup...

Why does PADI not have a "Find an instructor"?

I know the "Find and instructor" section on SDI/TDI is not well formatted, but it is nice to be able to find one. What is PADI's reasoning for not having something like this? I have sent emails to 4 people asking for an instructor and instructor trainer for specific courses and no one...
