Manatees March 2019 - where, when and with whom should I go?

+1 for Birds. Crystal River is an annual pilgrimage for me as well and I always use Birds. There is a Best Western less than 5 minute walk. Nothing fancy but the rooms are quiet & clean with good wifi. They include breakfast but I think it's served too late for the early AM departure (which...

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls

I gave the ladies specific directions to find it the next day but no luck. Problem is it looks very much like the common we see all the time when in "rock posture" so you could easily miss it. I only realized it was something different when he started moving. So in the meantime here is a nice...

Linda sent me this link to Laz's photo. He was lucky enough to capture it crawling across a sea star, so that should help with perspective. If I had to say I'm guessing about the size of my fist. (Women's Medium)...

Brownstripe Octopus (Octopus burryi) Between the new job responsibilities and managing that "other" page, I have not been on this forum in a while. But I saw something on my dive yesterday I thought the group might find interesting: a brownstripe octopus (Octopus burryi) A new species to me...

Most folks get in an hour (+/-) before high tide and out an hour (+/-) after. Too much earlier or later and you run into extremely strong current and horrible viz. There ARE places you can hide to stay out of the current and if you're shooting macro the viz isn't as much of an issue. Force E...

Alert: Nws using holiday season to sneak through new manatee swim restrictions

Just returned from a quickie trip up north. As always I stayed at the Best Western and used Birds. For the first time ever, I went on a busy holiday Friday (Jan 2) for both the 6am and 11am trips. The general answer in Crystal River regarding the proposed changes is “we don’t know but...
