Short trip report on Maui diving with Lahaina Divers

I will definitely check out B&B for the first day we are in Maui. Scubahawk, you have a good point as I will be on Mainland time when I arrive so I will be wide awake to do the early dives with B&B :D. I talked to Brad and unfortunately, Lanai dives are not common for them. I will have to go...

Short trip report on Maui diving with Lahaina Divers

I am staying at the Sheraton Maui so this is even more reason to go with LahainaDivers. That is a tough drive from Lahaina to Kihei. But, it would be nice to be able to get back earlier and have the rest of the day to do something else...

Short trip report on Maui diving with Lahaina Divers

Thanks for your report. We will be on Maui in the next few weeks and were contemplating which Dive operation to go with. We were thinking either Lahaina Divers, B&B or Ed Robinson's but I think your report may be the tie-breaker at this point. Thanks again!

    Rescue Course just completed!

Agreed! We normally boat dive off of Catalina Island so we do have to contend with alot of surges and undercurrents. But to do rescue off the shore in 2-4 foot waves is very physically demanding. And it doesnt help that we have to don all of our gear a few hundred yards or so away from the...

    Rescue Course just completed!

Yes, thanks to all of you. Toughest part of this course was repeatedly swimming back out past the surf zone to alternate between being a rescuer and the occasional victim and gear handler. This course definitely challenges ones' mental fortitude. I feel more confident in my skills but this...

    Rescue Course just completed!

Hey Scubaboard! Me and my two boys just completed the open water portion of our rescue course. It was the most physically demanding challenge I have encountered in the water thus far. We did all the required scenarios as well as all the pool exercises in the ocean. Heavy surge as well as 2-3...

    Poor buoyancy control>.<

As others have mentioned, you just need patience and experience. The more dives that you do will help you to find what works best for you. Also, try taking a peak performance buoyancy course. This will help you to dial in your buoyancy.

What do you wear under your wetsuit?

Leopard skin print speedos. Just kidding. I just grin and bear it with the trunks or even a dive skin during colder temps.

    Nitrox course

There were two options of Nitrox classes at my LDS. One with the classroom only and one that included 2 dives. I opted for the classroom session including the 2 ow dives. I felt this was beneficial in that it helped me understand the hands on/practical application for computer setting and gas...

    Death by Diving

Bob, You should be commended for your insightful post. It is reassuring to know that there are many people out there (not just divers or dive instructors) that genuinely care about other people. The world is truly a better place because of you and others like you. Thank you, Gary

    Wife is a diabetic

I concur and ask Lulubelle. Lulubelle is too modest. Ironic that she actually is a practitioner and has a wealth of knowledge with regards to Diabetes. Having a family member that has Type 1, I will not hesitate to consult with her in the future. Happy diving everyone! Im going out to...

    Wife is a diabetic

Leslie, I agree with your disagreement on the assumptions of my initial disagreement. And I am in total agreement with your agreement. Does that make sense? :D I understand that you "toned down" the verbiage you used in your initial post for the general population of readers. My son...

    Wife is a diabetic

You are missing the point DocVikingo. The intent of my post is stress the high level differences with Type 1 and 11 diabetes and put emphasis on the fact that there is much more involved with Type 1; not to write an elaborate discertation on the differences as I could have easily done that...

    Wife is a diabetic

These statements are a little contradictory to each other. Everyone "uses" insulin however in Type 1 diabetics the pancreas is completely shut down and therefore Insulin must be administered continuously. For Type II, the efficiency to manufacture insulin is impaired but not completely shut...

    Wife is a diabetic

The key is how well (or not how well) you manage your diabetes. My son is Insulin Dependant (Type 1) but his Doctor signed the RSTC form without any hesitation. It is definitely a major factor when you factor in Diving but it is something that is very manageable. The key is consistent and...

Open water + advanced in one go?

It looks like there isnt one right answer to this questions and on the flipside, there is no wrong answer. I see arguments for all three and really depends on the individual and how well he or she has progressed. I am in the same situation and have asked myself whether or not to go straight...
