Equipment My first out of air situation

I keep looking at this time series and am trying to understand what might produce this graphic -- and the OP's experience. Since the transmitting sensor connects directly to a high pressure port on the first stage, the only rational explanation that fits the facts is a clogged first stage from...

November-"Rainy" season but does it really rain much?

I was there last November for a week (Nov 18-25). Can't recall rain ever being a factor, but the light winds during that week made it feel hotter topside that what I'd experienced during other visits -- even though temps were the same. After at least a dozen trips to Bonaire, I can assure you...

Give the Sea of Cortez a shot on Rocio Del Mar. The Midriff Islands itinerary is a great liveaboard experience -- if it isn't already booked up. Mexico Liveaboards - Scheduled Trips to the Midriff Islands. Easy to get to from Colorado. It's a flight to/from Phoenix.

Bonaire newbie questions for June/July trip

For what it's worth. If you've never shore dived before -- or if you have and haven't yet had a mishap -- be aware that before you enter the water you should be configured like this: 1) Both fins hanging by their straps from one of your wrists, 2) Your mask on your face, 3) Your reg in your...

Review Did my pool lessons this weekend, thoughts on how it went.

Thanks for sharing. Not at all dissimilar from me and my son's pool training experience 25 years ago. Whenever anyone asks me if I've ever had any "bad" dives, I reply: "Yeah - the ones I did in the pool when I was getting my certification." Since then, every subsequent dive has been an...

Kona Trip Report - February 2025

I'm planning to go there with my grown son in July. Jeff Jones, the Manager of Kona Honu used to manage our local shop here in Boulder before moving there 5 years ago. May I ask where you stayed (or would recommend -- doesn't need to be upscale, just clean). Also, what was your vehicle rental...

    Current weather (rain?)

Just returned from a Nov 18-25 stay. Water and air temps were 85 degrees. The quote above sums up the weather that we experienced every day. Lots of sunshine and minimal wind. Sure beats the snow and cold back home in Colorado -- unless you're here to ski !!!

    Question Baby-moon locations?

As far as family planning goes: One is an act of Faith, two is an act of Love, three is an act of Insanity. Save your gear, because in 14 years you'll have at least one more Dive Buddy !!! Congrats to both of you !!!

FIJI-what do you wish you knew before you left?

Wife and I were there in April, 2023 for two weeks. Both of us are experienced divers and, like you, are just beginning to explore the Pacific region after decades of visits to the Caribbean. That was our 2nd trip to Fiji, but our first to the main Island and Volivoli. Here are a few things I...

Question How does Cozumel compare to other dive destinations?

20 years ago my son and I spent a week in Coz. It was our first open water experience. At the end of the week we asked one of the more seasoned divers how Coz compared to the rest of the Caribbean. His answer: "Well, I can't say that Cozumel is the best diving in the Caribbean, but I can't...

    Bonaire once-in-a-lifetime vacation

Correct. It was convenient for establishing our account for the trip, getting weights/tanks as needed, and doing our initial checkout dive (which was allowed off the Pier). The Colorado couple used DF for their snorkel gear rental so they could get full foot fines/booties (which Chogogo was...

    Bonaire once-in-a-lifetime vacation

We ate and drank at the Beach Bar Restaurant which serves the same menu as another operation closer to the Buildings. Nice outdoor atmosphere. Open for lunch and dinner. Folks are spread out -- which is good due to random smokers. Basic brewpub type menu with reasonable prices for drinks and...
