    Tropic Air?

All, I went to Belize and returned-- trip report pending and not sure where I'll post it, but just to bring the thread back around as regards Tropic Air: Best Airline I've flown on (and as a retired Marine, I've flown A LOT). Friendly, courteous, greeted us by name. Bags didn't always fly with...

    diving in Jamaica (mobay)

Go for their deeper dives. The reefs are pretty dead in Jamaica (at least they are around Montego Bay), but the sea life was better deeper down.

    Kudos to Karl @ SeaLife

Just wanted to pass on a big thanks to Karl at SeaLife-- I had a bunch of questions so I gave him a call (856-866-9191) and he took about 15 minutes out of his busy day to square me away on batteries, white balance, settings, etc.... Great customer service! :D -Jim

    Pony, Octo, or both?

Seeing your Marine bumper sticker, I find it difficult to think that you don't recognize a callsign when you see one. :D Semper Fi, Bro!

    Pony, Octo, or both?

:hijack: Sorry for the hijack, but this isn't ENTIRELY off topic: Any comments on SpareAir? When I started diving in '89, I didn't have an octo. At that point, we were all taught buddy breathing as part of OW cert. I commonly heard the idea that octos were something that instructors had...

Is this video real? 293ft on air...

Not dead, just crazy. I did some poking around on the web and found one site saying the record was 150 METERS which is somewhere around 500 ft. Bounce dive. Rapid descent and ascent. Pretty insane if you ask me. :skull:

    5 Oceans

The idea on the fixed weight pockets is that by putting some (around 1/3 works for me) of the weight on the tank strap, it counteracts the tendency of the back inflate to push you face down on the surface. I have the Reef Rider and it works the same way. BTW, check your other weight pockets...

    Reef-Rider vs 5 Oceans

I've got a Reef Rider and I like it. Pockets are easy to find/open and close. Back inflate is awesome- feels like you aren't wearing a BCD at all. You put some of your weight in the non-dumping pockets on the tank band and it works fine on the surface. Not thrilled with the plastic D rings...

    Anyone used a Pacsafe?

I have the Daysafe 100 and I really like it. It has the zip-out sleeve with the integrated cable lock. You can leave that zipped in, and run the lock out through a purpose-built hole in the top, but I usually leave that part in my hotel room with things like passports, cell-phones, etc...

    diving in Jamaica (mobay)

Zoopaint, I dove last year with Dressel Divers out of the Iberostar Rose Hall resort. The diving wasn't the greatest (mostly small fish), but the DMs and boat captains were awesome. Wife and I dove together in the morning, and then I went back solo in the afternoons and usually ended up...

    Tropic Air?

Anyone have any experience with Tropic Air in Belize? My wife and I are headed down there in a week, and we are using them to get around from Belize City to Ambergris and Placencia. Their website says you get 2 checked bags at 35 lbs each and gives dimensions at 62 linear and 30x15. I've got...

    ambergris caye 2nd week May 8 -15

A couple of things- Top speed of a boat is proportional to the waterline of the boat- all things being equal (which, admittedly, they aren't) the bigger the boat, the faster it can go. So I'd go with big AND fast. :eyebrow: I've never tried it, but I saw a thing called QueaseEase and a...
