    Wife's drysuit woes

I had this issue with an inflator valve on a drysuit and lubing up the inside of the valve made it stop. Not really sure why, but it worked, and is probably worth a shot!

    4th Element Undergarments

They make short versions of them too :) They moved to single sizes (12)vs the range (12-14) at some point. I'm not sure if my old one was a short (but I'm guessing yes) but my newer one definitely is!

    Need SSI Check-out Dives

This is sort of true, but not entirely...they did change the referral system, but it doesn't mean students don't or can't get a paper referral, or complete their cert with an instructor from another agency. What's different now is that the instructor you refer a student to is asked to sign off...

Anyone have experience with Scubaforce Thenar Dry Gloves?

You need to have extra long seals and it helps if they're also extra thick (I know g force makes them) to use the Thenar system with changeable seals, but it works fine. The extra long seal is because standard length seals just aren't long enough to go through both rings and still seal on your...

Where do you put all your stuff?

Scuba Mesh Bag SMB Carrier for Backplate (SCUBA Sausage Carrying Pocket) 804200052513 | eBay There are a whole bunch of different ones available, this is just the first one from a google search. Yes, leave your knife at home. Unless the dive shop you're using isn't following the marine park...

Where do you put all your stuff?

Based on where you're going you can eliminate the lobster tickler and knife right off the bat. Knives and gloves aren't allowed in the marine park in Cozumel and you can't catch lobsters there. Shears in a sheath mounted on your waist belt webbing near the back, SMB and spool on a hip d-ring (or...

    New diver to the Northeast

East Coast Divers - Boston Massachusetts Scuba Certification and Retail Come on into ECD and anyone there will be willing to chat with you about local diving. We run weekly shore dives and contract with a lot of the charters in the area. It's also likely the closest shop to you from Cambridge!

    Cape Ann Divers :(

I was on that charter teaching a class (well, not teaching it as it turned out) , and they called us the day before offering the option to cancel or head out and see how it went. We chose to try and see. I'm not sure if that option was offered to everyone on the charter or just us because we...

    Non Diver Ideas

I really enjoyed Kun Che park, especially the ball game http://www.kunchepark.com/en/home/ The chocolate factory is also fun: Chocolate Factory Tour at Kaokao Chocolate Factory in Cozumel Island I am a big fan of Punta Sur park too. Great beach, the lighthouse has a fabulous view, and the...

    Cheap Eats

One of my favorite cheap place is Nopales (maybe Los Nopales?) on 30th, around 7th or 9th. They have my all time favorite tortillas. Just be aware that if you ask for queso on something you're going to get a lot of queso unless you ask for un poquito. Also (assuming it's still there), Dona...

Cold in a Fusion laminate drysuit.

I'd also recommend dry gloves. Once your hands and feet are cold, everything else will be too. You can attache the Kubi or Scuba Force gloves to a regular drysuit seal, no rings necessary.

    Sizing of Bare vs Henderson

I have relatively recent experience with both brands. Henderson seems to have changed the cut/sizing of their suits last spring, so the size difference may be because of that if it's a newer Henderson. I have workn a 12 in a Henderson for years, nothing has changed, and now the 12 is a full size...

back plate and wing for a 10 year old?

I disagree completely.....good trim is possible in either one, I've had jr ow divers in both with great trim. Like everything scuba, when they're taught to do it correctly, it's not that hard. I do think a bp/w is a great idea for kids, it's very customizeable and will grow with them, but it's...

Is Antares dryglove system only option for Aqualung Fusion Drysauit SLT?

There are also dryglove systems that you can attach directly to the seals (I use extra long ones for this) with the rings. Kubi makes them, and also Scuba Force (which is what i use): Thenar Drysuitgloves KUBIstore.com

Anyone have experience with Scubaforce Thenar Dry Gloves?

All of the divers I know up here in NE that have tried them have loved them, me included. I use different gloves (cheap $4.99 Home Depot ones) and 4th element glove liners and have great dexterity and am warm. Highly recommend them!

    Aqualung Dimension I3

My i3 Lotus holds up to 30 lbs of weight between the integrated pockets and the trim pockets. I know very few cold water divers who need more weight than that. And those that do would not want it all in a BC anyway. So I'm confused about why you think it's not great for cold water?

    Wet suit thickness

While I think a drysuit makes more sense in NE, if you're getting a wetsuit, why would you look at a 5mm themaxx vs the 7mm? The 7mm thermaxx is plenty flexible, and paired with a hooded vest, will keep you about as warm as you will ever be in NE in a wetsuit. If money is the deciding factor...

Wreck of the Patriot, Marine Life in Stellwagen Bank

It is possible to dive in a wetsuit, though I think it is crazy to do. I dove it last summer with a few people in wetsuits. In August it was still 42 on the bottom.

Headed out with Snappa for shark diving this summer - any advice?

Aw, man, that stinks. I know Charlie hates when that happens and will stay a few extra hours with his fingers crossed. We're heading out Saturday, hopefully not a wash!

    Course Recommendations, Nitrox, Tipping

I am an instructor, and while I never expect to get tipped, it is a very nice gesture when people do it. It happens most often in private courses, when I work with children (parents are very appreciative of having an instructor skilled in working with children) , or when I've done something...
