    Dive Condition Reports

Had two great dives with livn2dive on March 11. Cleaned algae and coontail from cream o' wheat and river bed areas. Lots of algae due to low spring flow - we need rain, people! Water clarity and temperature same as usual. It was nice to get back in Spring Lake after a couple of months...

My first "incident" as a diver

Some of the most mentioned suggestions included a focus on the pre-dive equipment check and taking a refresher course. I appreciate every comment, whether I clicked on the Thanks button or not, because you spent some of your personal time to respond to my post.

My first "incident" as a diver

Many years after becoming certified, I started diving again last year, and my dive experience is less than 40 dives. I dive in a shallow spring-fed lake near my home. The maximum depth is 23 feet and we are usually at 8 to 10 feet, so the surface is nearby and it is not too scary. Last...

    Dive Condition Reports

Livn2dive and I worked in Deep Hole and Arch site. Aaron and the guys had worked earlier that day to clear silt off Deep Hole, so it looked pretty good. I could tell where the path to Arch site had been cleared, but once you come over the hump and approach Arch site, there is still a...

    Dive Condition Reports

Visited Deep Hole to clean away excess coontail. The park is open so a couple of glass-bottom boats passed over. Visibility was below average due to other divers in the water earlier that day. Had a wonderful time as always in Spring Lake.

Seeking advice on basic care of gear...

I'm gratified that so many divers are aware of the hazards of spreading invasive species! Many thanks.

Seeking advice on basic care of gear...

Awap, thanks. I have some wet suit soap that came with the wet suit that I can use. But tell me more about cleaning out the regulator. And I agree about the hot garage - luckily mine does not get too hot due to the way the house is designed, but I am going to have to figure something out...

Seeking advice on basic care of gear...

...if this has already been addressed somewhere else, please send me the link. I purchased older, used equipment which I use to dive in a very clean, spring-fed lake (freshwater). I haven't been really cleaning anything since the water is so pure. When I dive, I wear a tank, BC, regulator...

    Dive Condition Reports

Enjoyed a morning dive with buddy Livn2dive. Cleaned coontail out of Cream of Wheat springs and waved at the folks in the glass-bottom boat. We got our Aquarena Springs Science Diver patches! Hooray! Duration: 61 minutes Max depth: 21 feet Average depth: 7 feet Water temp - around...

    Should I get re-certified since I originally got my C-card in 1986?

This has given me several items to follow up on. I obviously came to the right place with my question. Thanks again to all who responded!

    Texoma Diving

Texoma is a long haul for me...but I am interested in hearing about your dive. I hope there are not enough zebra mussels in the lake (yet!) to make a difference in the water clarity. Let us know how it goes!

Justin the new diving for science coordinator

Hey Timeliner, San Marcos is not that far from Paris - what, 5 hours drive? You should come check it out for yourself!

Anyone else enjoying snorkeling the San Marcos (Texas) River?

As far as season, it is 70 degrees F year-round, so you can go anytime. We usually stay in a pretty small area (no more than 0.25 mile) but you could snorkel on down the river a pretty long way - people kayak and tube down a mile or more, and there are places to get out the river further down.

Can anyone recommend a good "refresher" book?

Just wanted to review the basic concepts of SCUBA at home. I didn't keep any of my notes or books from my certification class. Thanks!

    Should I get re-certified since I originally got my C-card in 1986?

Tigerman - thanks. I don't have the books or any other materials, and I have forgotten everything except "just keep breathing." Sounds like I should consider a refresher...

    Should I get re-certified since I originally got my C-card in 1986?

Moonglow - I guess I would have to go with a different agency since I got YMCA certification originally. Do you have a recommendation on a certification agency?

    Should I get re-certified since I originally got my C-card in 1986?

I didn't dive for 8 years after getting certified, then after that trip I didn't dive for 16 years. This year I got back into diving and have logged about 10 dives. Am I missing anything if I just keep getting my diving experience in the water? Should I consider getting re-certified...
