Vanuatu - short break, worth it?

we will be back for the coolidge, but not this trip. we're only going for 5 days so just want to make the most of the sun and water. staying just near hideaway island resort. I will take my partner on the Star of Russia for a dive or two and see how she likes it. the only wreck we've dived was...

Vanuatu - short break, worth it?

thanks for the reply Luko and Michael. We have decided to head to Port Villa and stay around Hideaway and use their dive facilities. given the short trip I think we'll be happy with what's on offer. While we will not be going to Santo, I will spend the few (precious) weekends preparing her for a...

Vanuatu - short break, worth it?

Hi, I've had a look around at as many reviews as I can and recently always have trouble getting past travel agent sites and that rather large holiday "advisor" site, so I thought I'd ask up front. we happen to have a week off (my girlfriend and I) and were wondering how Vanuatu stacks up? the...

    Diving Instructor Moving to Melbourne

Like every city, shop around for a shop. Some are relaxed some some are not as much. The Aussie stereotype of 'No worries mate' isn't universal. When I moved to Adelaide it took me 18 months to find a shop and service centre I liked (which incidentally were not the same company)

    RA & Komodo diving difficulty

Every holiday destination I've been to, liveaboard or land based offer help to those that can't manage their gear on awkward surfaces, komodo no different. Just consider the staff and use weight belts or remove pockets.

    RA & Komodo diving difficulty

Irreverent. The DM made an error in judgement. The other 30 odd dives he (+they, the boat crew, DM's, tender drivers, et. Al. ) was bang on the money for every time dependent dive in the area. The point being that you can never rely on a DM to get everything right, to be there all the time and...

mid range liveaboard Raja - November 2015

Charters blocked out for the entire trip.

    RA & Komodo diving difficulty

I've dived coral sea/GBR and komodo among others, including Palau and Peleliu. Komodo is one wild ride at times. you need to assume that your dive guide won't always drop you in exactly the right spot and they won't always be able to show you every single washing machine on the reef, so you...

mid range liveaboard Raja - November 2015

That's a good point, sorry RE prices. The absolute hard limit is $500 per day. Ideally $400 a day would be a nice middle level for a good boat and lots of diving, but it looks like there are a lot of options already out. MV seahorse I've only seen for $4800USD for 10 days, which is pushing the...

    Live Aboard Decision

I've now dived both MB and SoF. my vote is MB, but only by a small margin. the boat is in a bit better shape and the staff (albeit so, so fine hairs to split) were better. basically, if one is booked out, you'll enjoy the other just as much.

    Over work, need holiday... where?

bump. I ended up going to Mabul Beach Resort where I met my now long term girlfriend. highly recommended! oh, the diving was pretty good too ;)

Where to complete my divemaster internship on koh tao?

you will be much more employable going to a respected training shop in the US than anywhere in Thailand. suggestion.... go to a dive destination somewhere you like the sound of, Malaysia for example, spend a bit of time there watching what the staff do every day and then decide how much you...

mid range liveaboard Raja - November 2015

I know I'm late, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on a ~10 day (ideally +) liveaboard for Raja that won't break the bank. I'm either looking for better budget or mid range options with a good reputation. there is a reasonably recent thread on the pearl of Papua which people rubbish...

Coral Sea weather and sea sickness in April

late response I know... but I'm sure others will read this. I can tell you it does move about a lot in heavy seas. I'm not prone to sea sickness at all but I was that trip. the steel hull gives it a different feel than I'm used to on lighter sailing boats. I've also been on MB in heavy seas...

light weight decent regs for the GF

hi all, If this gets posted every week, forgive me, I've been through a few pages and can't see much. I'm looking for a light weight, tropical water, yet good quality set of regs for my girlfriend. i would love to buy her and I matching MK25's or Omega 3's but honestly... she doesn't like...

Asia trip November to early december

haha... believe me, my first choice was not the GBR! it's pretty much costing me (us) the same to dive there as it does a full 7 days in Komodo or Raja.

Asia trip November to early december

Bubble junkie, the quickest way from Japan is through Guam. All, as of this morning we've decided to head to the GBR, which is a second time for me but up to osprey reef instead of the 3 day trip I've already done. Reason being that we're going to Sydney as well for family. Unfortunately not...

Asia trip November to early december

Indeed, my apologies! Trip is 10ish days. Budget is reasonably open, but we're not the type of people to stay at the newest 5star when there are beautiful beach huts down the road. We've both been on liveaboards before so we understand the value against the upfront cost. Great suggestions...

Asia trip November to early december

Hello :) I need some help! my girlfriend and I live on other side of the planet, so coordination is hard for holidays. She can take leave from roughly the 1st of November (leaving Europe) to the 10th of December (landing in Europe), less roughly, but a day or 2 may be OK. my dates are...
