    Big Island - Waikoloa

My wife and I have been diving on Kona at Christmas for the past twelve years. We've tried most of the dive companies, opting for a different company due to size of boat, number of divers, staff etc. After about six companies we've really settled with Kona Diving Company. Great staff, good size...

November Trip to Maui: Help needed in planning trip to another island?

Regardless of who you go with (and I'll give another shout out to Kona Diving Company), make sure you do the Manta Ray Night Dive. One of the best dives I've ever done. Have a great trip.

    What got you into diving?

First vacation with my girlfriend (now wife). Spent first week in Cancun, second week in Cozumel. After one week of being on the beach, I couldn't face another. Saw a dive shop with a big Canadian flag painted on the roof (Papa Hog's), went inside to talk, and we ended up taking our OW course.

Dive trip to Big Island of Hawaii

My wife and I do two weeks in Kona every Christmas, and can't wait to retire so we can do longer. The diving there is very good. We've used a number of companies, but have been very happy with Kona Diving Company. Good size boat, not too many divers, outstanding crew. Agreed that the Manta Ray...

Hawaii advice- where is best to dive?

I've only dove on the Big Island, and Maui, so can't speak to the other islands. I am a big fan of the Big Island, both for diving, and for above water activities. I've dove the first two weeks of July, and have found it great. Nice water temperatures, good visibility. As I've said to others...

What's your latest departure story from GCM?

My wife had to leave 6 days before I did. I took her to the airport on a Sunday, and I left the following Saturday. Night and Day difference. She checked right in, and got through security in less than five minutes. The following Saturday for me is exactly as has been described in the previous...

Possibility of regulation of Kona's manta ray dive on front page of West Hawaii Today

    1) Has it gotten too busy? Yes, its crazy. Way too many divers / snorklers. I was out one night with 42 mantas, and there was no room in the water for everyone. In fact the operator I went with that night, vowed not to do it anymore, as it was too crowded. I see that they no longer...

November Trip to Maui: Help needed in planning trip to another island?

Cody, I think we met diving with Ocean Frontiers on Grand Cayman a few years ago. For a dive vacation in Hawaii, I would definitely chose the Big Island over Maui. My wife and I have been going there for Christmas for over a dozen years, and love it. There is lots to do in addition to the...

Big Island small 6 pack Dive OP in Kona??

Loved diving with Kona Diving Compnay. Prior to them, we dove with Pacific Rim Divers, which operates a small boat, maximum of 6. A little too small for me, but they were great people.

For EricK Have had a number of great dives with Kona Diving Company. Small number of divers, great crew and dive guides. Really good boat.

    Decisions?

I was bored on vacation in Cozumel 20 years ago, and was drawn to a big Canadian flag on a roof, that was Papa Hog's diving. They are still in operation, and were instrumental in establishing my love of diving. Give them a look. For a first time diver they were tremendous. I have great...

New Diver, Free Airline Ticket, Thinking about Hawaii--Suggestions Welcome

I'd have to agree about the Big Island, and Kona Diving Company. My wife and I have used most of the compnay's in Kona, and all are good. However, we did find KDC to be a rung above, with outstanding dive masters and crew. The diving around Kona is great. Warm water, beautiful coral reefs, and...

    Kona Manta Dive

I'd recommend going with one of the smaller operators, who will only have 5 or 6 divers. Might make your boyfriend mroe confortable being in a smaller group.

    Ruptured alveoli

A friend of mine is very interested in diving. She was told by her GP that she can't though as she when she was a teenager she ruptured her alveoli (something in her lungs - clearly I'm not a Dr). I told her I would post on her behalf with the question: would a ruptured alveoli from about ten...

You have one dive on Grand Cayman before you die, what site would you dive?

While I loved doing Groupers Grotto when the Silversides were there last July, I would have to say my favourite dive would be Eeny Meeny Miny Mo. I love the wall dives in the East End, and found this one to be particularly spectacular.
