    where to buy a compressor?

Not quite. Z180 is an occupational health and safety standard. Anyone providing air to employees or compensated staff HAS to provide air tested to z180 standards (like Dive Msters or instructors.....) If you sell air to mere *consumers* there are no applicable standards in Ontario...

    Failed + Rating

In Canada, if you test a tank to it's plus rating and the tank fails; it counts as a failed (ie. condemed) tank. No retest to the lower pressure. No subsequent retest to plus pressure.

    Tank experts only!

No. First of all, a hydro AND a good visual/eddy current is required to check to see if the tank is safe AND the tank has to have been handled safely and correctly since the tests. Now remember that the test can only tell you if a tank is unsafe.... It cannot tell you that the tank is safe...

First all metals have some endurance limit. Aluminum is just lower than steel. The endurance limit is the point just before the metal deforms (expands) under pressure. Anytime the tank expands, you are past the endurance limit. Do it enough times and the tank will fail. A hydro test is...

    Tank experts only!

No. The hardest thing on a tank is repeated rapid filling because the heat generated is bad for the tank, especially when combined with the pressure. When a tank is hydro'd, it is in a water bath and water is used to pressurize the tank so the heat is not an issue. The hydro test checks the...

    How long should I wait?

A respectful disenting opinion..... First throw away the concept of AOW being "Advanced". It does not make you an "Advanced" diver, it merely gives you five more supervised dives in slightly more challanging conditions than your Basic. The key word is "supervised". I think that a few more...

    Dive computer for deaf diver

I dive with a Suunto Vyper and although it has an audible alarm, I have never heard it underwater. Maybe it has something to do with the hoods I wear in the cold water. This seems to be common with many of the people that I dive with. I would second the advice above. Get a computer that...

As said above, Dacor's cylinders were manufacturered by Luxfer. Up untill mid 1988, they used an alloy known as 6351. This alloy had cracking issues. Please understand, the number of failures is less than 0.4%. Of course, this doesn't matter if you own one of the eight that blew up. It...

    Network Troubles

I feel better. I was concerned that it was either my thing with the blinky lights or my Machine that goes "Bing" (Actually, I not that computer illiterate - I moved my modem to the shelf above my PC so that the data would roll downhill into my computer and thus be faster! )

    It's snowing!!!

Yes, all specialities take place after AOW. Most stores offer Ice Diving. Like most specialities there is a classroom session and then a diving session. I think that just the AOW is required. KNowing how to tie knots, run a saw, stay warm, and the coordinates to the nearest Tim Hortons are...

Should I service my equipment?? - only 21 dives on them

If you are a new diver, take your gear into the shop over the winter and ask them if you can observe while the gear is serviced. See if you can "tip" the technician and get an intro to the gear that keeps you alive. Don't expect to become a technician but it is very good if you have a better...

    Aluminum vs Steel tanks

I think that you are out of line here. d33ps1x was speaking as to why his board seems to be the exception to the rule about DIR internet discussions being onerous. Maybe everyone should take a break and read a different thread. I think HeadHunter's original question has been answered and...
