    cave vs open water dpv

Sounds like you had a crummy OP DPV class. Sorry to hear it.

    SAC worse with new reg

Give it a little time. Different regs breath differently, they sound different, they feel different in your mouth. Everything about them is going to change your breathing pattern. You'll fall back into normal shortly. One thing to check: Take the reg out of your mouth during a dive at some...

What's the cheapest agency to become a DiveMaster?

If you think being a dive professional is, in any way, cost efficient you are in for a lot of disappointment.

    Legality of "cave fills"

No. You'd be breaking the law when you moved the over-pressurized cylinder.

To goodman or not to goodman, that is the question

Apologies. Suppose I wasn't really reading the OP's question properly and was answering it as "Goodman handled-style, proper cave lights vs. something not goodman handled. Like... not necessarily something as silly as a pistol grip... but not not as silly as a pistol grip."

To goodman or not to goodman, that is the question

This guy gets it! My gal strives to be different, though. She wears the left glove.

To goodman or not to goodman, that is the question

You shouldn't have to hold a Goodman Handle. It should be just snug enough that you have full manual dexterity with that hand without it slipping off. Unfortunately, some people (like me) find that to be a little tough of the back of their hand. Particularly their second metacarpal. Most...

To goodman or not to goodman, that is the question

Just read this over and over and over again. Because it is definitely the correct answer.

Interested In Cave Diving in Mexico?

Hey, local Mexican cave instructor here (well... I'm from New Jersey, but I live and work in Mexico). Luis is absolutely one of the best. Great diver, passionate instructor, and all-around great guy. He's got a very close affiliation with Dos Ojos and has for decades and is based out of the...

Its Just the Grand Traverse Why so Tired?

Some years ago a friend and I planned what we called: THE ULTRAVERSE You've got rebreathers and a camera. Do this one next. It took a little under six hours hours of swimming, a LOT of jumps, staged bailout and snacks, and a very long post dive nap. So plan accordingly. (I keep the little...

    Primary light for cave

When I use mine for sidemount config I put it on the back of the harness and run the cord over my shoulder. But I have many clients who use the Nanite even for sidemount; the cord is long enough to butt-mount it without putting strain on the inline cord gland.

    Primary light for cave

Don't need but the 10 or 15ah can. The 10ah will probably do for 99% of cave divers in the world for runtime even with the 32w head. I run the 15ah with the 32w myself. Which I charge twice a week. As a working instructor. So... again... the 10 is probably big enough artillery and it ain't...

How I've Been Interviewed as an Instructor

I tried Mods. I really tried. But even as I cut entire paragraphs out I couldn't get it below the 10,000 word post limit. https://www.xoc-ha.com/post/eenie-meanie-miney

    Primary light for cave

I love my LIght Monkeys. In Europe you might have easier access to Nanite or Thor. Both of which are pretty amazing lights; the former is no-frills and solid function, the later is lots of optionality and ability to field-fix.

    neoprene neck seal and scootering

I wear a neoprene neck seal. I will ONLY wear a neoprene neck seal right now feeling them vastly superior in every single way. For me, anyway. I am in the water very nearly every day of my life. I teach DPV classes with some regularity. And this is the first I have ever heard of this being...

Now needing a snack due to dives of that length... That's a little tricker.

Long dives, what do you do for hydration?

The caves we mostly dive into are springs. Like... as in "Spring water." When you're thirsty, you take the reg out of your mouth... and drink I do Yes, even here in Mexico. No, you don't drink the water from directly under Playa or Tulum; that's the way you get hepatitis. But out in the...

Cave Diving Instructors in Playa Del Carmen or U.S.

Not gonna lie... it's bad. In places. And at times. To risk sending the whole conversation down a very ugly rabbit-hole... yeah, there are some areas that are just lost due to the hubris of the local construction. HOWEVER... There is still a lot of cave down here. Much of it upstream (that...

Can a certified cave diver escort a non cave diver

Upwards of 90% of the folks I find myself chatting with in the parking lots around here... "Because they're pretty." That's why I, myself, cave dive. I never thought I'd enjoy it - I'm claustrophobic, you see? But I got talked into going and taking a look and it was pretty and...
