    Emperor Explorer, yes or no?

Finally managed to get time off and hoping to go on a liveaboard in the Maldives end of January. Unfortunately, at this late stage, choice is almost non existent. Reviews on Tripadvisor about the Emperor Explorer are mixed to put it mildly, but I’d rather get your opinions on here please. Is it...

What to combine Layang Layang with?

Thanks for the info. What an awful thing.... Such a shame that the area is plagued by this. At least it was not actually Sipadan/Mabul, but that doesn't make it any better....

What to combine Layang Layang with?

OMG!!!! I didnt know that!!! We just got back 10 days ago and we had a wonderful time. I must say that the first night in Kapalai I was worried about the pirates, but gradually I relaxed, plus the fact that there is actually a military base on the resort and the soldiers come with you on the...

    Sipadan Insurance

There have been kidnappings of toursists for ransom from various resorts including Kapalai, Mabul Water bungalows etc. The latest one was just in July 2014, so most countries' Foreign Offices advise against non essential travel to the area.

    Sipadan Insurance

I have no idea why insurance becomes invalid jh_McLeod when a travel advisory is issued, but the thing is, it does! So, for anyone who still wants to be covered for the normal travel eventualities in these areas, finding insurance can be a bit tricky. Your points are all valid and definitely...

    Sipadan Insurance

If anyone else is interested, the only company I found that covers the area (Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai etc) despite the travel advisory against non essential travel there (British Foreign Office and others) is BUPA GLOBAL at global.ihi.com They are based in Denmark but you can do an online chat...

What to combine Layang Layang with?

My intial trip plan was to dive Sipadan and then Layang Layang for the Hammerheads but now I have to abandon the Sipadan plan because I can't get insurance for the area as there's an advisory against travel there. So, where else can I go diving that's easy to get to from Kota Kinabalu and it's...

    Sipadan Insurance

Oh lucky you!!! I wish I were Australian now. The UK Foreign Office has the warning in particulat for the islands east of Sabah, namely Sipadan, Mabul, Kipalai and all the good stuff. The rest of Malaysia is fine :((
