What would you do to fix this?

I print very few of my pictures and I want to make the most of those that do get printed. The end goal is an aesthetically pleasing picture to hang on my office wall that reminds me to go diving more. Ideally it will be pleasing to others as well and not just me. Yes, the size was just...

What would you do to fix this?

What post production should be applied to improve this shot? What is attached reduced in size and converted to jpg from the raw file, then compressed as it was uploaded, no other changes made yet. The compression artifacts around the Garibaldi don't exist in the raw file and the back scatter...

    Catalina Dive Park Nov 5th

This picture was taken this past Sunday, November 9th, 2014 at Casino Point. We had just gotten to the Glass Bottom Boat in about 70 fsw of water and I was un-clipping my camera. I had not yet turned on the flash or checked any of the settings. I was literally shooting from the hip hoping to...

Coolpix AW 110 or Oly TG-2 iHS

I have no experience with a TG-2, but own an AW 100 as well as a AW 110. My wife loves the camera and takes it diving. I take them on the kayak with no worries, and the GPS is a nice feature and allows me to export the track logs. It would be nice if I could set the camera to display the...

    Shore diving tricks and tips

 I respectfully disagree. The only reason I can this being useful is if you don't like your mask and needed an excuse to buy a new one. Keep a back-up mask secured so you don't have to call the dive when your mask is lost in the surf. -Chocula

    Shore diving tricks and tips

Try and pick a spot with little or no surf. LA County teaches snorkel only through surf to eliminate the possibility of a lung over expansion injury. As stated previously, your first entry should be with just mask, fins and a snorkel. I have gotten rolled pretty good in surf before and one...

Should I buy a drysuit or is a 8/7 a good choice as well?

I have an Aqualung Solafx 8/7 and use this for Southern California, mostly north of LA. I am sensitive to cold and this suit was quite comfortable all year round, if not a bit overly warm in the fall. The coldest I have dove with this suit was 52 degrees and I was fine. One drawback to...

    My arms are killing me!

I modeled my setup after the one shown at: Shore diving with a dSLR underwater camera|Underwater Photography Guide It has worked out very well for handling the camera both in and out of the water. For boat dives, I clip the two bolt snaps at the top together to make a handle. The stobe(s)...

I guess we can all just put our regulators away fro good! (LOL-ha haaa!)

Looks like a shiny regulator casing filled with used pinball machine parts! I suspect this is a concept drawing based on technology that does not exist yet. It will probably happen someday, it will be cool when it does.

    Bullied under water

If you can take the details of most of this tread with a huge grain of salt, the overall message seems to be you need to stand up for your rights. Since this is no longer in the heat of the moment, I suggest you sit down with someone who is supportive (hopefully your husband) and determine what...

Ikelite Housing for older Nikon DSLR

Do you have an older Ikelite housing that you would like to get rid of? I am looking for an Ikelite housing for Nikon D200, D300, or possibly D5000. I already have Ikelite ports and strobes. I would be open to another make of housing with a port if the price was attractive enough to justify...

The Final Word on + Ratings?

Ok, that is what I was attempting to ask the first time. I think I then misinterpreted the response from Scared Silly. Thank you for the clarification.

The Final Word on + Ratings?

So to clarify, a steel 72, that originally had a working pressure of 2250 and a + rating would be be tested at 3750 (5/3 of 2250) if no + rating is requested, and 4125 (5/3 of 2475) if one is requested? The question then becomes, is it worth the increased risk of failure for the additional capacity.

The Final Word on + Ratings?

Do they have to test the tank at a higher pressure to qualify for the + stamp, or is the test the same, but the amount it expands determines if it fails, passes, or passes with + rating? -Chocula

    Water ingress to BCD

I like the Listerine idea, I will have to try that. I usually remove the rear dump valve, add water with the hose, slosh and drain through the oral inflater. I do this once or more depending on how much water was in the bladder, then let dry with the valve removed and the bladder opened up as...

How long can I wait before rinsing?

I take a 2 gallon lawn and garden sprayer filled with fresh water when I go beach diving. It works very well to give everything a light rinse and get most of the sand off before things get stowed in the car. I keep all of the wet stuff together and try to keep it damp until I get home and...

    article on rock bottom

Rock Bottom Calculation Spreadsheet Since I have just purchased a new tank, I though it would be useful to do the Rock Bottom calculations for it. I was surprised that I did not easily locate a spreadsheet with the necessary calculations so I created one. Hopefully it will be useful to...

Help: Photographic composition in the presence of surge.

Thank you for the comments. The marine forecast indicated 5-7 foot swells at 11 or 12 seconds and right in the middle of a 5.5 foot change in the tide, which seemed consistent with the surge. Most of the first dive was spent between 15 and 18 feet deep which was where the strongest surge was...

Help: Photographic composition in the presence of surge.

Took my DSLR diving yesterday. Conditions were fine for diving, but there was 5 to 8 ft of surge with some current, depending on which dive that day. Going deeper was not a practical option. I am looking for suggestions on how to deal with challenging conditions, specifically surge and...
