    ScubaBoard needs your help...

It’s been a few years since I posted here (or any diving forums) - kids, life and work intervened on my diving - but over the Christmas period I started browsing again and a signature on a post in the Passings forum (RIP Dr Bill, your Dive Dry articles were always a great read) made me realise...

Ultima vs KUBI Dry Glove System for Whites Fusion

I have the fitted Kubis on my O'Three neoprene suit and really like them. I tend to get cold hands, so having dry gloves on all year round isn't too much of a pain, but I could see the fixed rings being annoying if I ever wanted to dive with wet gloves. I recently bought a second hand Santi suit...

    Electric vests inside drysuits

I decided to take the plunge and get the Santi heated vest at the start of the year. I was thinking of a new can light anyway, so bit the bullet and plumped for the Ammonite 24aH thermo battery (and LED radical head). My LDS sorted me a deal for the heated gloves as well. The battery is big...

Going cheap on the small stuff

I think thats the right approach, although its sometimes difficult at the time to identify which end you should go for. I have a quality Kent Tooling reel as my primary (usually for shooting a bag), but the backup is a standard finger spool rather than the admittedly nicer looking Apeks ones...

WTB - Tube Weights for JJ CCR

These are from the UK but shipping might also work. Wrap in heat shrink obviously! http://www.theleadweightcompany.co.uk/lead-sash-weights/round-sash-bar-weights/round-sash-bar-weights-1200mm-length.html -Mark

    reducing trimix costs

What Tmx will you be using? How rich a He mix do you need? What deco gasses? Will air be of any use for deco, or will it be an extra bottle to carry, adding complication and risk, not to mention encumbrance? As mentioned above, how much gas will you use on descent and ascent to first deco...

    Course Recommendations, Nitrox, Tipping

I think the comment was more in reference to potentially inadvertently picking up a tank containing something other than air in a busy filling station. Best to know how to check, and why you should check. -Mark

    Pee-Valve Cleaning

I have a condiment-style squeezy bottle that I fill with the Chemgene solution used to disinfect my loop / lungs. Run some of that through then rinse with fresh water after a days diving (basically whenever I disinfect the loop) -Mark

Dry glove system for Santi smart seals

Try using a double ender clip - point one end perpendicular against the o-ring seal (ie like a wedge between the glove part and the fixed ring part) and twist, pops right off! -Mark

    Dry Suits for Dummies

As mentioned, othree are great suits and very popular in the UK (I have an Ri1-100 myself and love it). Also worth checking out are Otter (Otter Drysuits, UK - the website isnt the best but give them a call, everyone is super friendly and helpful) or Santi (eg Dry Suits - I know Adam at...

To use argon bottle or not?

If you already have a suit bottle and you can see diving with higher fractions of He / colder water in your future then why not get into practice using it now, standardised kit etc? A separate suit bottle also genuinely gives you a redundant buoyancy source. And finally practicing swapping hoses...

Why do we put oxygen in aluminum cylinders?

Here in Europe we have the M26 valve / thread size for use with rich O2 blends. Relatively straightforward to get fills etc at most places in the U.K. at least with these sizes, but for travelling outside CE-land they are a PITA as most rental cylinders I've seen for example have standard DIN...

Rule of 1/3s and different tank sizes

And some people say rebreathers are complicated and will get you killed.... long live the Imperial measurement system and SAC calculations....;) [/JOKE] -Mark

UTD Decompression profile study results published

Can I suggest that, as @Patoux01 notes, you are not commenting on what this study set out to measure (the difference in outcome for two decompression strategies, UTD-RD as implemented by AG etc and Buhlmann with 30/80 GF), but more what conclusions we should draw from it, namely that profiles...

UTD Decompression profile study results published

Agreed, its a practical get out of the water approach for a change in plan or whatever. I personally use 2 computers but can buy the idea that others prefer "simple" (ok, subjectively) rules that they can use too, and it seems a tool I'd like to have for that really bad day.The comparison graphs...

UTD Decompression profile study results published

Yes, that makes sense... so perhaps more accurately combining the graphs of the UTD-RD(TM) algorithm vs the ratio profile that uses your view of the methodology discussed by GUE to generate a 30/80 profile "on the fly"? From my interpretation of his post, Kevrumbo is suggesting that the...

UTD Decompression profile study results published

Does anyone have the "third" graph from above - ie UTD-RD(TM) vs GUE? And perhaps even a fourth with all 3 profiles on one? Would be interesting to view but I'm not infront of a computer to do it myself... -Mark

Dry suit - check list to avoid getting wet

This is a good tip. I find before opening the valve if I get into an upright position in the water you are shrink-wraped from the bottom up, both making sure that gas comes out of your feet and that the undersuit stays in the position you just manipulated it into. -Mark

    New diver from London

Much as I wish it were different, I think even in the summer (or is it "summer"?) the UK waters are generally cold enough for a drysuit, especially as your dives get longer or you do multiple dives per day. Sitting on the rib / hardboat in a wetsuit isn't much fun either. Whilst a custom fitted...
