What to wear under rental wetsuit for more warmth?

I ended up getting a Lavacore long sleeve top and a Lavacore hood. I'm really glad I did! I don't think I've ever been warmer on a dive! The top fit perfectly under the 3mm long sleeve Bare wetsuits that the shop rented. The cut is definitely a bit weird in the shoulders, but it feels fine...

What to wear under rental wetsuit for more warmth?

This seems like what I'm looking for! How do all those compare? They all seem pretty similar? I take it they're all basically some sort of neoprene alternative on the outside and lined with fleece on the inside?

What to wear under rental wetsuit for more warmth?

Ah crap, meant to say wetsuit. Fully aware of the difference. *facepalm* Fixed. I'll look into it, thanks! How well do they resist wind?

What to wear under rental wetsuit for more warmth?

Hi folks, I only go diving a handful of times every year, so I haven't invested in a wetsuit yet; I just use rentals from whatever shop I'm diving with. Unfortunately, most shops in Hawaii and Thailand and so on only have farmer johns or shorties, and I'm always FREEZING! In fact, I'm always...

Getting Rescue Diver and/or Nitrox certified on Maui?

Doesn't look like they offer Rescue, but thanks! I'll check out doing Nitrox at home, thanks for that tip. :)

Getting Rescue Diver and/or Nitrox certified on Maui?

Oh, I just noticed they're in Kihei....bit of a hike from Lahaina, but the price difference easily makes up for it. Plus, you have a much shorter boat ride to Molokini that way. :)

Getting Rescue Diver and/or Nitrox certified on Maui?

Maui Dreams doesn't look like they do boat dives for training, but B&B looks great! Their prices are fantastic too...$349 for OW, and $300 for rescue, and that includes gear, books, etc! And all their rescue dives are on the boat! Dunno if you can beat that...Lahaina Divers charges $589 for OW...

    Good waterproof, non-electronic logbook?

I think I might go with these...unfortunate they're UK based, that makes it pricy in the US, but it looks like a quality product that I can use for many years to come.

    Good waterproof, non-electronic logbook?

Believe me, I would be the first person to buy a dive computer...if I could justify the cost. In 7 years I have about 50 dives, half of which were done on a 3 week diving-intensive community service trip. So, the PADI book I got with my open water stuff is now overflowing, and I'm looking for a...

    Diving in Iceland?

Just want to add...good god, Silfra is COLD. I was having a minor panic attack for the first 5 minutes or so of both dives as my hands and face felt like they were turning to ice. Eventually everything goes numb and you get over it and the thrill of the incredible water takes over...but the...

Getting Rescue Diver and/or Nitrox certified on Maui?

Hi all, I'll be traveling to Maui in January for two weeks with my girlfriend. She'll be getting her open water, and I figure I'll go take some classes at the same time. I was thinking Rescue Diver, since those classes seem to run about the same length of time as the open water classes. Maybe I...

    Port Douglas Recommendations?

Thanks Kevin and Mark, I appreciate it. Seems like I can't really go wrong with any of them. Should I book the trip through a dive center (I need gear), or directly with the boat operator?

    Port Douglas Recommendations?

Oh, I forgot to mention: the family might want to come out and snorkel while I dive, so a boat with a cheap snorkeler rate would be nice. I've seen numbers in the AU$180 range...that seems ridiculous, considering you don't really have to supervise snorkelers...

    Objective fin reviews?

The problem is, I'm currently at school in new york. I get home on May 20th, then leave on the 24th for Australia. I need to get some fins before then, but I don't have a ton of time to try them out at a shop before I leave (there isn't a dive shop within 100 miles from me, and now that it's...

    Port Douglas Recommendations?

I'll be in Port Douglas with family approximately 1st week of June and I was looking to do some diving, since I've never been to the Reef before. I have PADI Open Water and NAUI Advanced certifications, with 1100 minutes bottom time. I love doing wrecks, as well as shallower diving (more color...

    Objective fin reviews?

The latest test I can find dates back to late 2007, here: www[DOT]scubadiving[DOT]com/gear/2007/11/18-new-fins. Are there any newer tests since then comparing some of the newer fins on the market? Sorry about the link formatting, it won't let me post links yet.

Need help buying my first fins!

Yeah, that's pretty much my thinking right now. I'll go down to the dive shop when I get back home (still in Asia, flying home tomorrow), but I'm thinking I'll just grab those X3s. Someone asked me in a PM what fins I used on the liveaboard...to answer that, I can't remember exactly, but...

Need help buying my first fins!

Wow, so many choices! I'll have to go down to the shop sometime... No one answered my question about the booties...will just about any booties work?

Need help buying my first fins!

Thanks. I know Ocean First well...it's were I first got my Open Water back in 04, when it was still called Scuba Joe's (5 years and 44 dives...that tells you how often I get to go diving!). Do most local dive shops (I assume that's what LDS stands for?) allow you to try out gear before you buy...
