    Is prepaying hotel the norm?

It's very normal for non-chain hotels in the PI to require prepayment to hold the reservations. Whether you have to pay all or just a deposit can differ and may be negotiable. If you refuse be prepared for them to refuse your reservation. If you put it on credit card you can dispute the...

    Boracay diving

Boracay diving is not in the same class as many other area of the PI however, the above water experience is probably better than anywhere else with lovely beaches and a ton of great places to eat and drink. Your different types of regs should not be a problem. The water will be warm enough...

Troubleshoot for Canon S95: Camera would not turn on underwater

I've had this problem couple of times with Canon housings, and it occurs when you have a button that has become sticky because of salt or something else accumulating on one of the button o-rings. Then the pressure at depth overcomes the spring tension on the button and causes it to stay in...

Some great shark shots from 2 new Pelagian CCR divers in Malapascua

Nice shots but looks like a flash was used, and two strobes are visible on the camera in one shot. Are you letting your divers use flash on Monad now?

    Dragons in Anilao?

Looks like Lembeh Seadragons can be confirmed in Anilao! Thanks to Peri at Club Ocellaris whose sharp eyes found this. Plus a few other shots from my trip to this great location. Shots taken with Canon S95 using Inon lenses.

    Creepy things found diving

Free-diving in La Jolla cove about 35 years ago. Found two whole, corroded pistol cartidges on the bottom about 20 meters from shore. Not sure that I want to know the story behind why someone felt that they had to toss them in the ocean.

    Muck Stick?

Get one! 1. good for pointing 2. when used sparingly can be good for moving things or tank banging 3. makes a great anchor when in a current over smooth sand, rubble, or muck bottom and you need to hold a steady position to take a macro shot, just stick it straight down and use it as a...

Raja Ampat - Mermaid II or Sea Safari 8 ?

We're looking to go on a liveaboard to Raja Ampat in February and the two available boats that seem to meet our schedule are the Mermaid II and the Sea Safari 8. I haven't seen any recent reviews or posts about either of these. Anyone have any experience with either of them?

    Console vs Wrist

I haven't seen mention of another issue. If your console computer dies on you: 1. if you are diving, your dive is over because you no longer have air pressure and depth. However, with a wrist mount and spg, you could very possibly have continued your dive if you planned your profile in advance...
