    Timex Helix

This was my first bottom timer when I was just getting started. I really enjoyed my Helix DM! It got me from Open Water, all the way through Cave 1. It died on me one day, and I replaced it with an Uwatec 330, but not a dive goes by that I don't miss the Helix DM :(

    O-ring question?

Is this considered a dynamic o-ring? I ask, because the only 75 durometer o-rings I've used have been the 003 rings on a high-pressure spindle. Those are dynamic o-rings and have to be lubricated. Most of the low pressure o-rings I've used (such as the 011 o-ring the male end of a low-pressure...

    O-ring question?

I know this must have been asked & answered once before. But, a search returned only irrelevant threads so ... here goes: Does anyone here know the durometer and the dimensions of the little o-ring that is hidden inside the female end of a standard low-preassure hose (pictured below?) And do...

    WTT - Four pound weights.

I have four 4# pounds that I want to trade for smaller weights. Specifically, I need at least two 3# weights (coated, uncoated, hard, or soft.) If anyone is interested, please send me a PM. Thanks!

The solo diving movement, a good idea?

'Safe' is a funny word. Imagine ... Four rock climbiners walk into a bar: Abe, Blake, Chris, and Dave. Dave thinks free solo climbing is 'safe,' but Chris disagrees. Chris thinks free solo climbing is dangerous, but traditional climbing is 'safe'. Blake thinks traditional climbing is dangerous...

Fundamentals at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston

I believe this is a unique opportunity for Texas divers to experience this kind of training at an affordable cost. The price includes the instructors fee, instructor's expenses, students's expenses (including pool time, doubles, fills, and entrance fees), and lunch. A similar course in San...

Those do look very, very cool. Gideon recommended I check them out when I replace my Whites. Hopefully I will have the chance to test one this July.

Why do tanks get hot when you fill them from higher pressure tanks?

Correct. My point was that the system as a whole (high-pressure vessel, whip, and low-pressure vessel) does not experience a change in energy, if the system is adequately insulated from the atmosphere. Due to the increase in volume between the first state and final state of the gas, the final...

Why do tanks get hot when you fill them from higher pressure tanks?

No, I mean ... what does Queen have to do with kinetic theory?

Why do tanks get hot when you fill them from higher pressure tanks?

You touch on an interesting point. An important concept to realize is that temperature is not a measure of energy; rather, heat is a measure of energy. Temperature is a measure of the rate-of-transfer of energy (heat, light, etc) between two media. In the example of transfilling gas from a...

    Nitrox's O2 toxicity VS O2 in hospitals

You are correct in that the physiology of a dry dive and a wet dive are quite different. Inpatient hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is routinely administered as high as 3.0 ATA. This is most safely provided at a multilock multiplace facility, where staff are better equipped to prevent seizures...

Dangerous psychology- Diving beyond one's training

I pursued cave training for similar reasons. I had a passing interest in caves, but my first purpose was to prepare for overhead penetrations of wrecks and artificial reefs. I was shocked to find that cave penetration is much safer than wreck penetration. In fact, I now believe that I am not yet...
