    Bart Malone April 02, 1946 - December 03, 2017

Obituary for Bartholomew P. Malone at Gardner Funeral Home, Runnemede Many of you knew Bart. Bart was one of the most enthusiastic divers I have ever met. The NE dive community, his family and friends are all mourning the loss of what one of the NE Dive community elite recently called "our...

    NY Diver drowned yesterday

All great questions that are being asked locally. No one seems to have answers yet. I have never been to this dive site, but Ive read numerous counts of the dives on various postings and it seems to me that some members of this group bragged about safety and planning...but it appears that safety...

Product Review: BARE XCS2 "Tech Dry" Drysuit

Bare suit. Installed new from factory, replaced under warranty from Bare (twice)..... I could list others from my boat as well, but the above reference is my personal experience on a suit that was babied (stored well, not used on the aggressive dives, and taken care of well). Im not alone...

Product Review: BARE XCS2 "Tech Dry" Drysuit

Getting into the suit is easy. Plastic zippers stink. Ive tried them....had numerous failures....seen numerous failures on my boat. They even have a tendency to leak without an actual failure (yes...EVEN if you lubricate it and ensure that it is fully closed). Im going back to all metal...

    Do I want a compressor?

I have a compressor, booster, (12) 4500 psi 450 Cu Ft bank bottles at home and a separate compressor on the boat. Except for the He and O2 contract that I have (compared to buying them in a shop) - the compressor itself doesnt save me a nickel....but it sure is convenient and saves me a TON of...

    Future of Canister lights

Yup I looked at the prior DR model and wasnt impressed with the brightness. I have high hopes for the XHP50 and I want to get my hands on it to see what the light looks like.

    Future of Canister lights

I see can lights going away... I have a new(er) UWLD Can light that is awesome, but Ive been thinking about selling it. I do long dives.....but at least half of my time is in an area of the water column that I do not need a light..... Plus the canister....the cord....would be great to get rid...

    Bailout cylinder options

I have all al80s with the exception of a pair of steel lp85s that are jacked up to 3600 psi. These are 7" tanks, sit nice as sidemount and hold a ton of gas. I only use these for my 250+ dives. They are heavier. The left side has 50% He and sits nice. The 50% O2 tank on my right has a...

    Starting out in Tech Diving

Yes and no....I think Trace may still teach a class who's entire focus is self reliance. In fact, I thought he was certified to teach solo cave diving (very rare) and may have been the first to reach that status. Overall, I think it depends on what class you take with him but most of his tech...

    Starting out in Tech Diving

Answers to your 2 questions: 1) Buy a Shearwater. Dont even think twice about it. Its a no brainer. End of story. 2) In your ( or I should say our) area - if you want to be a great diver with the best technical instruction around - Call Trace Malinowski. IF....Trace isnt available - let me...

For Sale Worthington twin 130's. (2 sets)

I dont think they are completely out of fashion, but they are a niche set of doubles. Before I went CCR, I had several sets and they were my favorite tank for 200+FSW dives. Im actually getting ready to sell 2 sets and I plan on targeting 500 for a price...so....you may have been a little...

    diving fitness?

Im no where near the conditioning factor that I once was...but I try. I was a decathlete and a pretty dedicated MMA/BJJ instructor who once trained 5 days a week... These days I try to get 20-30 miles a week running and I usually hit about 20 or so....and I force myself to lift 2-3 days per...
