    BBC Photojournalism: Indonesia

What a beautiful, but sad slide show. The use of snuba to make a living in Indonesia is more prevalent than most realize. These people usually have some awareness of the bends, but their lack of scientific understanding and the need to make ends meet gave them very little options in their eyes...

    bunaken/ lembeh/wakatobi

Wakatobi has a lot of beautiful soft corals, but not a lot of fish. The resort is nice, but I'd recommend Bunaken over Wakatobi for better diving as well. The wall in Bunaken is gigantic and has a lot of life. Lembeh is always fun for muck diving.

Raja Ampat weather in late February??

January and February are not the best time to dive in Raja Ampat because the water is choppy, though you can still do it in protected areas. We generally don't recommend diving during these two months. Early March is better.

Ambon - Malaku Divers - Trip Report April 2010

Great pictures Uli! I hope the frog fish are alive and well, just hiding somewhere nearby (I saw two of them in Laha on my trip with MD a couple of years back). Luko: I did land excursions while I was in Ambon. Not a lot to see really. Best thing to do is to rent a car for a day and go around...

    Cendrawasih bay Indonesia anyone been?

Unfortunately I've never been myself, but we're putting a trip to Cendrawasih Bay as well! I heard whale sharks for Cendrawasih Bay.

    Sorong transit - advice

Our liveaboard always recommend flights from Jakarta to Sorong (with a stopover usually in Makassar) because they are most reliable than from anywhere else. This has always been the case for flying to any remote area in Indonesia. Jakarta has many flight options to Sorong and they're all pretty...

    Baltimore/DC Dive Show

Old man winter won't let go of his grip on Baltimore. But now worries, we'll be serving fresh brewed Indonesian coffee and home baked cookies again on Saturday at our booth to keep the shivers away!

    Komodo Water Temp in May???

I have one vague memory of diving in Komodo and the water was relatively warm, unfortunately I don't remember when that was. Most of my other trips to Komodo (mainly Sept-Nov) included memories of myself shivering. Just like you I have excess colditis and at minute 45 during any dive anywhere, I...

    Maumere Land Based Diving

One of the night dives I did in Maumere was one of the best I've ever had. Try to get one in your itinerary.

    Air Carriers Jakarta/Sorong/Jakarta

Frankly, when flying to remote regions like Sorong, it's hard to be picky about the flights. Lion Air, Express Air, Batavia Air, and Merpati all take you there, but they all basically only offer flights every other day. When you put into consideration your time of international arrival and...

    Irian Jaya

We recently did a trip out to Asmat territory, not to dive, rather to visit Asmat villages. As Andy said... swamplands and crocodile haven. Numerous muddy rivers flow into the sea south of Papua. See the photos for yourself on our Facebook page.

    Ambon 27 - 31 Dec. 2010

For the sake of avid divers in the world and the people of Ambon, I hope Maluku Divers stay open. They're indeed a good bunch!

    Baltimore/DC Dive Show

I don't know for sure, but I think they may still be taking registrations at this time. I sent you an email of a contact who may be able to help you. If anyone wants that email, just PM me.

    Ambon 27 - 31 Dec. 2010

Nice shots, let alone for a teenager! Bought a couple of smoked tunas myself on my way back from Ambon a couple of years ago.

    komodo budget staying

February is not diving season in Komodo as the seas will be very rough. I think the season starts again from end of March/ early April. A lot of budget operators and hotels in Labuan Bajo, but none in Komodo island. The Komodo National Park refers to the surrounding water and islands, with the...

    hidden gem-Raja Ampat Liveaboard Putiraja

Sorry, but I'm butting in once again to answer this. North Raja Ampat is closer to the town of Sorong, making the trip to South Raja Ampat longer. The North sites are closer together, making it easier to see a greater variety of things and less affected by weather conditions. The south is...

Suggestions for Sipadan or North Sulawesi?

Hi BottomDweller, I've never been to Sipadan, but I can comment on N. Sulawesi. You can do muck diving in Lembeh Strait and reef diving in Bunaken. The distance of the two are about a 2 hr drive. Some resorts offer transfers between the two locations. I wouldn't go to N. Sulawesi without...

    hidden gem-Raja Ampat Liveaboard Putiraja

Hi everyone! I'm a representative of Putiraja and I'm trying to stay away from this post to let people make up their minds about us. I certainly appreciate the positive comments from Hilary and Bret. However I need to make it clear that Matthias Klum's project with National Geographic was...
